Sen. Tom Pischke apparently uses “public school” as an insult.

From facebook.. as State Senator Tom Pischke uses attending “public school” in a manner which implies an insult.

Well.

At least it wasn’t a comment about race.

  1. I for the life of me can’t figure this tactic out. The school choice proponents tend to use the anti-public school arguments rather than the merits of homeschooling and Private Schooling to stand on their own. 83 percent of South Dakotans use public schools and the vast majority are satisfied with their children’s education. Who is Pischke endorsing for Governor?

  2. Let me guess, Pischke is endorsing Hansen. I’m sure he thinks he’s being funny, but these school choice proponents would do themselves a favor and push school choice on the merits of homeschooling/private schools but they can’t help but continually attack SD Public schools, their teachers and administrators. Especially if this is gonna require tax payers to fund additional avenues of non regulated education. If for some odd reason they were able to get this through the legislature, it will be referred so fast that it will make heads spin. On an unrelated topic, Jacqueline Garcia of New Britain, CT remains were found yesterday and her parents have been charged with her murder. Jacqueline was “homeschooled “ and extremely malnourished showing signed of years of abuse. Also Katelin Campbell, 34, teacher at a Private Christian School in Texas was arrested on child sex crime charges recently. The AFP WR director is quick to share stories about lock downs in Public Schools, lock downs that occur that aren’t related to the schools, but criminals in the area in an effort to push her, Hansen and Speaker O’s school choice agenda. It’s sick and I feel sick for even sharing the 2 stories above but they happen and I wouldn’t use these as anti-homeschool or anti-Private School arguments.

  3. Pischke is showing signs of burnout. I think he could use a little respite from politics. We all should do that more often

  4. I hate to break it to Tom and his friends, but the private schools around here aren’t doing anything different from a teaching perspective than the public schools. They are just able to kick kids out who are not performing. Then the parents are forced to push their kids to do homework, to get to class, etc. Then follow up with those kids when they enter college, and those academic scholarships are gone, and they drop out. Who would have thought that, as a parent, we are supposed to teach our children how to operate on their own, not operate as little mirrors of ourselves? Maybe the next generation will see this and wake up. Schools aren’t the problem; it’s the parents.

    1. Totally agree. We have had an influx of Private School Students/Homeschool Students come into our District. Great kids for the most part but my “B” student kid has helped with tutoring a few of these kids to get them up to speed. I also found it refreshing that 2025 ACT scores were released today and SD continues to outpace the National Average on the ACT and has the highest scores in the nation in states with over 30 percent participation rate.

  5. For the extreme right, education is the enemy. Thinking for themselves instead of having the powers tell you is not good for them. We see that in the federal government now that it is Reagan republicans running it.
