Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken Endorses Larry Rhoden for Reelection
Sioux Falls, SD – Today, Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken endorsed Governor Larry Rhoden in his reelection bid. A photo of Governor Rhoden and Mayor TenHaken at the announcement is attached.
“When I look at all the stuff we’ve gotten done in 18 months, it’s really quite remarkable. There’s really, in my opinion, one guy who’s the right guy to lead this state for the next four years. I’m excited to endorse the Rhoden campaign for Governor,” said Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken. “I have never heard anyone question this guy’s morals, his ethics, his faith, or his character. And to me, those are the things that matter.”
“Mayor Paul TenHaken has done an outstanding job leading Sioux Falls. I’ve been proud to work with him to make South Dakota’s largest city an even better place to live, work, and raise a family,” said Governor Larry Rhoden. “We’ve delivered some incredible results to keep Sioux Falls strong, safe, and free, and I’d be honored to keep doing that work for the next four years.”
The announcement took place at Rhoden for Governor’s Sioux Falls campaign headquarters. Mayor TenHaken was joined in his support of Governor Rhoden by Lt. Governor Tony Venhuizen and other key leaders including:

- Lincoln County Commissioner-elect Joni Ekstrum.

What’s even more notable is who is endorsing Doeden…Phil Jensen, Kathy Rice, Taffy Howard, and Lance Russell. There is a clear distinction between the two candidates as well as those who support them.

I wonder if the “Sioux Falls effect” will hurt Rhoden more than he gains from the endorsement?
Watched the video of Doeden desperately pleading with President Trump to endorse him made me sick! South Park should do an episode of Toby flying his (For The Powerful) jet to Mara Lago and offering himself.
Please note: you have to make the first move with Trump. Doeden has no political power to offer Trump at this time, and he has given Trump no thing resembling a gift to honor Trump’s resplendent reigning glory, preferably in excess of a few hundred thousand dollars.

That’s a list straight from who’s not who. My goodness. I’m endorsed by Fred, Sue P, Kevin J, Les, Feigen etc? Ernie and Betty? The cheese guy that just got smoked in his primary? Who thought this was a good idea? It will move as many votes as there were people standing behind the lectern.
I would guess a number of these endorsements were initially Hansen/Lems supporters. Rhoden will need that section of the base. No issues with it.

Well no surprise here. Rhoden has forgotten about South Dakotans outside of Sioux Falls and Rapid City. Even TenHaken says it, “When I look at all the stuff WE’VE gotten done in 18 months, it’s really quite remarkable.” Unless TenHaken has been helping Rhoden govern across the state he’s talking only about Sioux Falls.
Even with this knowledge and being a rural South Dakotan I haven’t been able to bring myself to the Doeden camp.
Considering over half the population in South Dakota is south of I-90.

Honestly makes sense.
That being said, Governor Rhoden has made stops in Aberdeen prior to the primary and I believe he will be in Aberdeen between now and July 28th.
Besides he has used the future funds for a million dollar for business parks to be used in Aberdeen. He signed off on the bill to help funding for a school based therapeutic center here in Aberdeen that we hope will be open this fall.
Assuming Larry thinks the non-Doeden voters in West River will naturally flow back to him, SF is the area he needs to improve most in to win the runoff.

A good chunk of Doeden’s loudest endorsers won’t be participating in this legislative session. They’ll be watching from their living room couches because the voters sent them home. Other Doeden endorsers should probably be more focused on their own legal headaches they have going on this week rather than pretending they’re the conscience of South Dakota politics.
