What’s all this complaining from Sioux Falls Democrats about a few endorsements making the Sioux Falls Mayoral contest partisan? Because I think they should remove the log in their own eye, before complaining about the mote in the other person’s.
Because on 6/10, South Dakota Democrats dumped a massive amount of cash into the Sioux Falls mayoral contest, giving Jamie Smith’s campaign a HUGE $10,000 check.
When was the last time they made a 10k donation to one of their own candidates, much less in a “non-partisan” race?

Didn’t Republicans Denny Sanford, Dana Dykhouse and Henry Carlson give Erickson a $100,000 check… three weeks ago? And didn’t the Republican Party and Toby Doeden both endorse Erickson before the Dems gave that pittance to Smith?
I believe that Sioux Falls will survive if Erickson wins. But I think we all know who started the partisan war, and who is spending a “massive amount of cash” on this election.
This election is going to be interesting. I think Erickson wins. Maybe that’s just my bias. But I do wonder what’s going to happen in a very low turnout environment. Smith performed well in an election where the Governor’s race and a whole bunch of GOP legislative primaries juiced Republican turnout. Absent those elections, who shows up in a city race? About 12% of voters? About 5,000 votes could win the Mayor’s race.
The wingnuts turn out in numbers, so be afraid, be very afraid! The rational voters of SF had best see the writing on the wall and get to the polls!!
They think Mr. Smith has a shot. Unlike the other candidates.
I don’t think either one asked for endorsements. This could actually hurt either or both. When it gets political, people of different parties may go against a candidate. Another option would be to just stay home.
A state party financially helping a candidate win against a candidate from the other party? SHOCKING! Democrat Eschenbaum is no doubt outraged.

Internal convos from high level people within the SDDP and the Smith campaign say that Jamie threw a temper tantrum bc he wasn’t getting money from SDDP and the DNC. Looks like the state party caved.
Wonder if the SDDP gave money to other local candidates across the state? Did they give money to Kevin in Vermillion!? The very town Jamie’s campaign manager lives.
