Unforced errors in the last weeks of the runoff draw attention to Doeden campaign

Coming off of their election night victory, the Doeden for Governor campaign seemed to have found it’s footing, picking up a few endorsements from fellow Republican candidates, and clipping along. But as we get closer, they seems to be going back to some bad habits they had from the primary. This week we’ve seen somewhat undisciplined activity and what appears to be an outright false attack as the race tightens moving towards the finish line.

What am I talking about?  First off, on Wednesday we were treated to this text message blast from Toby’s captive Political Action Committee that he funds to the exclusion of nearly all other funding, Dakota First Action.

The text message blast claimed that former Democrat legislator Nancy Turbak, a pro-choice advocate, is funding Rhoden’s campaign because they reported a check from the Turbak law office .

The problem with that assumption is that there’s people running that office other than Nancy.

Via Fred Deutsch, confirmation from the Turbak Law Office that Nancy sold her office and isn’t there anymore. I’m presuming she’s enjoying retirement, and has nothing to do with who or what the office named for her supports anymore.

I don’t think that the error has forced the Doeden campaign to do anything in terms of an “oops” or change the attack, but it ends up looking a bit silly that they can’t get it right.

Then yesterday, there was unforced error #2.

Corey DeAngelis apparently endorses Toby Doeden, and it looks like they put together a graphic declaring this. Apparently, this guy is a self-declared “school choice evangelist.”

They problem is, he also appears to have been a gay porn actor:

A school-privatization activist and frequent Fox News guest whose work has been praised by former President Donald Trump was placed on leave by his conservative nonprofit employer after reports that he had appeared in gay pornography videos surfaced.

and..

A person who resembles DeAngelis and performs under the name “Seth Rose” appears in at least three gay adult films on the pornography site GayHoopla dating to 2014. In the videos, “Seth Rose” does not have sexual contact with other performers; rather, he appears in scenes masturbating solo or alongside other men. The existence of the videos was first reported last week by the blog Str8 Up Gay Porn, which shares gay porn and articles about sex.

Read that report from NBC News.

and…

Following allegations that “parental rights” activist Corey DeAngelis has appeared in gay adult films, the right-wing school choice organization American Federation for Children (AFC) has placed DeAngelis on leave, the organization confirms to Them.

Read that here.

Is gay porn – or any porn for that matter – part of the school choice debate?  I’m told he has endorsed other insurgent republicans in recent months, and “they chased him out of town.”

It really makes a person ask who is making the decisions on the attacks and endorsements? Does no one vet these things?

18 days to go. I don’t know if it can come soon enough.

  1. Kalshi Rhoden 58% vs Doeden 44% Figures do not add up to 100% due to what is offered/ bid Rhoden holding his own

    1. Doeden needs to stop with the fringe endorsements. There are only a handful of endorsements that matter and most of those don’t really either.

      Hansen endorsement matters.

While Jensen and the others hurt his chances of getting to 50%.

Focus on running and forget about endorsements from politicians.

  2. The donation was from her sons who also donated to the pro abortion cause. The problem is that Larry took the money. If he is the best Republican in the race why do all the big corporations and most powerful people in this state back his campaign? Same question if he was the best republican then why do these lefties donate to him and support him? The answer, he is a big state puppet and moderate. The elites are very scared their time in power is just about through.

    1. dumb brain activity. Tubby is an “elite”, but panders to the peasants, using shock value and trumpism. some people still think trump is on their side, but those people tend not to think for themselves. toby would flail in office like the fat turkey he is. many people (including blue people, omg no!) donate to his campaign because toby is an idiot. are you an idiot, or do you just like to watch stuff burn?

    2. Not sure who you have in mind when you say “elites”, but if a gruff, irreverent multi-millionaire who is trying to buy his way into a seat he has neither the tact nor the experience in government to actually fulfill the duties of isn’t an “elite”, then I think you’re hopelessly misled about who you think has your best interests at heart.

    3. The smart and successful people won’t donate to Doeden.
I’ll take that as an endorsement for Rhoden.
Some lefties are willing to support Rhoden not because of his policies but because they know what an utter train wreck your boy Doeden would be.

  3. Had a couple of local Brown County GOP voters privately contact me making comments that they leaned towards the only GOP candidate for Governor that had not gone negative in their ads being Doeden. I replied with examples of both Deoden and his PACs with one being chaired by Drew Dennert going negative with misleading and false attacks. The voters were surprised and disgusted.

  4. It is amazing enough that there’s an inexperienced unstable egomaniac in the White House, dismantling our security and business alliances and destabilizing the planet. It is mindstoppingly nutty that, having such a clear cause to our national train wreck plainly visible, that we would want our own inexperienced rich egomaniac in our governors mansion. Rhoden is the man for this moment.

    1. you have until July 13th to change you registration to Republican so you can vote in the runoff and save the state from Toby Doeden

  5. Yes let’s condemn a man for making a poor choice when he was a college kid. Do we now support purity tests on this website? Our former governor and her husband appear to have made some mistakes in their personal lives. But for them we need to keep them in our prayers.

    1. Since you seem to have such a firm grasp on precisely when people are supposed to be held accountable and when behavior is to be ignored, can you lay out some guidelines for the rest of us? I thank you for your monopoly on morality and praise your efforts on educating us, the unwashed masses.

      1. Bah. Once you do gay porn, you always do gay porn. No walking that back. grudznick is a little surprised about Mr. Doeden and his association.
