Erickson Declared Winner of Recount
SIOUX FALLS–Sioux Falls Mayor-elect Christine Erickson released the following statement upon being certified the winner of the mayoral election recount.
“The results were clear on June 23 and again today after the recount. I won the election and I will be the next mayor of Sioux Falls. Thank you to everyone who has stood by my side throughout this entire campaign. I’m ready to get to work as mayor,” said Erickson.
The final recount tally for Erickson was 18,281 and 18,277 for Smith.
In the days ahead, Erickson will continue to prepare to assume the position of mayor.

Indeed. The City of Rapid has Mr. Salamun, who will no doubt reach out and provide some mentorship to the young woman. Ms. Reagan, a mayor from the District Numbered 30 will no doubt do so as well, so there can be some female advice in the mix.

I’m all Team Christine, but here quotes last night and now this one seem very me, me, me.
“I won” and “I will be the next mayor.” Factual, yes, but a little more grace and team appreciation would look better.

Clear? Two votes? She just can’t help herself. Really annoying.

Very true. The longer the campaign went on, the less enthusiastic people were about her. Had the election been a week later, Smith might have pulled it off. He should pull a Thune 2002 by accepting the results and waiting until next time.
Yes, it’s very poorly written. Frankly, they should have written something far more gracious weeks ago and saved it for now. Reminds me of Trump claiming a landslide win.
Jamie Smith is an honorable guy. I hope he shows that and accepts defeat now, instead of prolonging this endlessly with a court battle.

The developers and people with money rigged the election. Frankly, we won’t have a city anymore unless we fix this.
Maybe Smith should call up Leah and say he needs her to find him 7 votes. And if she won’t, say the election was rigged.
