Augie Republicans start Go Fund Me campaign to attend CPAC.

The Augustana University College Republicans have set a goal recently, and that goal is to take 18 of their membership to CPAC – The Conservative Political Action Conference at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in Washington DC From March 2nd through the 5th. As you can read on their Go Fund Me Page, this self-supported Republican student organization is trying to raise $5000 to make it happen for their members:

One of the greatest opportunities for young conservatives to hit the ground running is the Conservative Political Action Conference, or CPAC, in Washington, D.C. in March, 2016. The conference hosts thousands of conservative leaders, and is even hosting a few of the Presidential Candidates who are fighting for Republican Nominee. CPAC is a bootcamp for young conservatives: it engages them in the political process, creates networks, and provides hands-on learning about how college students can relay their political experience and skills onto their campuses; thus sharing conservative values, engaging more students into one of most important parts of being an American citizen.

That’s where you come in. Augustana University wants to take as many students as possible. Our goal is to take 18 students to Washington, D.C for four nights during the conference. We will use the funds to pay for flight tickets, transportation to and from the airport, and lodging.

As the conference is in Washington, D.C in March, we are trying to reach our goal of $5,000 by the end of January 2016 in order to book flights for 18 students. As any conservative knows, hard work and dedication will reap results. We know that with hard work and dedication, we can make this trip affordable for 18 college students.

Read, and help them with their Go Fund Me campaign here.

The Augie Republicans have been very active in conservative causes this year in the Sioux Falls Area. In looking this evening, they’re already 10% of the way to their $5,000 goal, and that was before I added $50 to it.

Give them a hand, and a little funding to help make it happen for these future GOP leaders.

Update: You’ll notice in the comment section below, one of the Democrat’s leftist leaders, Cory Heidelberger, is calling out this bunch Conservative of College kids as “socialists” and “panhandlers” for trying to raise money to attend CPAC.   Apparently, he must chase away the Girl Scouts and Hockey players raising money around his neighborhood as well.

Yes, this is the same person who threw the hate at a person trying to raise money to attend the execution of her child’s rapist/murderer, who eventually made it to Sioux Falls despite his best efforts. Apparently, a rape/murder victim’s mother was too much of a challenge, so he’s out criticizing college kids raising money now.

I think It was Ben Carson out there who said that “with every negative article, he raises a million dollars.”

So, with the state’s liberal elite hating on them, now you have even more of a reason to help get these kids to CPAC.

(PS, they’re up to $1000 now!)

  1. Yes, thank you, Pat, for promoting the socialism and panhandling of GoFundMe. Whatever happened to able-bodied South Dakotans earning their own money throw hard work? 😉

    1. Socialism? Panhandling?

Sounds like Corey doesn’t understand the definitions of “socialism” or “panhandling”.

      typical.

      Soliciting a donation? Yes.

Much like how Corey mooches off the solicited donations from his wife’s congregation, all the while bashing Christians with his bigoted comments.

Can Corey spell ingratitude? Full belly hypocrisy?

    2. I thought you supported getting something for nothing, lefty? The difference is that people are free to give if they feel if it’s a worthwhile cause (which this is) or not give if they feel it’s not a worthwhile cause (anything promoting the Democrat/Socialist party).

    3. I’m sure Corey’s wife refuses all monies provided to her as “salary” since it is all panhandled/baskethandled donations from rich white folks trying to buy their one-way tickets to some fictional & delusional “heaven”.

As a dependent of his wife, and as a she-man of principle, Corey will refuse his wife’s tainted cloud-funded lifestyle.

      Lutherans: the original go-fund-mes!

  2. Daniel,

Many of these students are at Augie because they are willing to take on big levels of student loan debt. That said, except for those who come from very wealthy families, the vast preponderance are on strict budgets.

    1. Take on big levels of debt with no correlating result….Now there is some conservative thinking. “As any conservative knows, hard work and dedication will reap results.” Apparently, these conservatives would rather just ask for it than actually work to obtain it. No indication of any fundraisers, no indication of actual work being done…..Don’t fault me for laughing. The definition of conservative has really changed since I was in college.

      1. Daniel,

Before make such a claim the Augie CRs are not doing any work, you should get a fact or two. The student government at Augustana allows groups to raise money by doing service hours within the community. The Augustana Republicans have already done the max amount of hours this year that we receive compensation for. We will also be doing several more hours knowing we won’t receive compensation. With that being said, we obviously can’t expect the student government to fund our entire trip resulting in us looking at different routes for funding. Any local legislator will tell you our group is active in the community helping them with their campaigns and other events. We have also hosted debate watch parties on campus that are open to anyone in the public. I encourage you to like “Augustana University Republicans” on Facebook or follow us on twitter @AugieCRs so you can stay updated on what we actually do rather than what you think you know which appears to be very little.

        1. Just think if you put all that info in your request for a handout, we wouldn’t have to wonder what you are actually doing. There’s your lesson in marketing for today. However, I still find it hilarious that private school kids are whining about funding, when they could attend a public school and pay their own way to CPAC every year for the next 10 years and still not spend as much on their private school education. Do you want to know what real conservatism is? Your overpriced education followed by a pity party to acquire funds for a voluntary trip is not conservatism. If you want to attend an indoctrination event, go ask mommy and daddy. Even better, this is the 21st century, watch it over webcast and donate your funds to one of the many underfunded orgs in this state that actually provide a public service, maybe your local fire dept or domestic violence shelter. Those are the people that really deserve the help.

              1. Pretty apparent that Daniel could either never make it in or afford a great private school like Augie.

                1. What to compare checkbooks? There is no monetary benefit to attend Augie so it is merely overpaying for an investment that I will just see more return on by going elsewhere.

      2. I think they are willing to take on more debt to avoid the inevitable attempts to indoctrinate them into the Socialism/Paganism which is rampant at almost every government college and university, and I, for one, think that is worth spending money on.

    2. If one were on a strict budget, then taking out loans for college is not an option. They are not compatible.

The fact remains, these students made the decisions they made, damn any budget. They also made a decision to solicit funds. Other folks can make their decision to contribute, or not.

  3. Daniel, thanks for the marketing lesson. On a personal note, I can tell you that these outstanding young adults are doing everything they can to offset their costs. They are selling t-shirts and running several other fundraisers. Did it occur to you that there may be people out there looking for ways to help them? Maybe you’d like to contribute as well? Growing up, my dad always told me “if you don’t ask, the answer is No!” so shame on them if they don’t ask.

Now, aside from a personal contribution to the “group” I am contributing to my daughter’s expenses for this trip as well. So, bite your tongue and let them experience and learn new things. Or, is that what you are afraid of?

    1. Doug, I want them to learn what true conservatism is. Not wasting funds on unneeded things to accomplish nothing. It seems to be a lost ideology for modern day republicans. They aren’t going to learn anything new at CPAC that they can’t learn here or remotely. You want your kids to experience it, pay for it yourself. The republican party is dying for a reason, and it’s crap like this that is contributing to it. I’ll call it out when I see it.

      1. –You want your kids to experience it, pay for it yourself.

Another liberal telling others how to live and how to spend money.

        Ug.

        1. Yeah, suggesting a person pays their own way is definitely liberal. It’s also conservative to ask others to fund your expenses. /s

          1. Suggesting that a person seek assistance when needed, or seeking assistance when needed, is neither liberal nor conservative–it’s human.

            Just us, won’t you?

  4. –Doug, I want them to learn what true conservatism is. Not wasting funds on unneeded things to accomplish nothing

I suppose that would be one person’ view of conservatism.

How about a rational person describe conservatism?

  5. Dan,

If Pat and I want to give money to the CR’s to go to CPAC, what concern is it of yours? Its my money and if I can help a kid whose parents might not be able to do so (or they have liberal parents who abhor their child going to CPAC), let me see what you spend your money on that is “unneeded” so I can judge your expenditures.

    1. Go for it Troy, begging for money for an unneeded expense by those who attend a school financially out of reach for most……sorry if i don’t feel bad for not contributing. When I start asking you to fund my unneeded expenditures, I’ll listen to your criticisms.

      1. What’s up with the class envy of those who attend private schools? Really conservative.

  6. Daniel, cite your source(s) that shows Augustana University is “a school financially out of reach for most”. Seems to me you are using arbitrary criteria for everything. Do you know “most” peoples financial situation as well? Do you know what my financial situation is or why WE chose Augie in the first place? I suspect not.

Let me suggest a few links to help you with your continued fact finding…

    1. Doug, sorry for the temporary moderation. The filter kicks in for more than one hyperlink.

    2. Wow, a ranking of colleges that have to exclude public universities to remain within the ranks. Tell me why I can graduate from School of Mines or DSU or USD or SDSU and still make more money…..

  7. I cannot believe this post generated so much angst. There is so much more liberal stuff to posted here to really get irritated about.

  8. And echoing Troy’s statements, I’m supporting this in word and deed because it’s important to cultivate young Republicans to continue the party’s growth. It’s been vitally important for the GOP to have Teenage Republicans (who I’ve been too busy to do much for lately) and College Republicans.

Over time, I’ve been blessed with many mentors and supporters, and I owe their generosity of time and in some cases money to pay it forward to others as well, and I’d encourage everyone to do so with this group of CR’s.

  9. Dan, if you ask, I’ll freely decide on whether I want to contribute. As a person who benefited from the generosity of members of the American Legion who paid for my Boy’s Nation experience and the SDGOP who underwrote the registration of SDCR’s who attended the national CR convention, I consider it just paying back.

Regarding if it is a need for these students, it is irrelevant to me. I know by experience these students will come back better informed and motivated to assist GOP campaigns and understand issues. In my mind, it is a win-win for them and society.

Finally, charity not only requires a giver, it needs recipients. Without recipients, one can never be charitable. I appreciate these kids giving me this opportunity.

Doug, your post got caught by the filter because it had two links. Only one is allowed.

  10. Daniel,

Why all the animus toward Augie? Is this directed at all private schools who save state taxpayers money or just Augie? Do you have the same criticism of those who choose to buy more expensive cars than “necessary” or choose to buy bigger homes?
