Legislative Candidate with Bernie Cash Bump spends $3k on credit card fees, $22k on consulting?

Dana Ferguson over at the Argus Leader was looking at campaign finance reports, and noticed that Democrat Candidate Clara Hart recieved a massive $81k influx of money because Bernie Sanders talked nice about her:

Hart’s campaign finance reports show that she brought in $81,405.20 since the last filing in late May.

Read it here.

Well, good for her. 81K is a massive influx of cash that should give anyone the ability to assume a commanding lead. So, what did she do with it? After spreading it to some of her fellow dems..

…then, it got odd….

screen-shot-2016-10-31-at-1-51-57-pm $14K in advertising is pretty normal.   But $3,047 in credit card fees? How does a political candidate rack up $3000 in credit card fees?  Is that even possible? Then, $2,031 on travel around Sioux Falls? And here’s the kicker – $22,537 spent on consulting for a South Dakota State Legislative race?

Seriously? She spent as much on consulting as she did on advertising, postage and printing PUT TOGETHER?

I don’t know about you, but having been around the block a time or two, something smells a bit fishy wth this campaign finance report.

  1. Looks like she gave Ellee Spawn $200 yet Spawn has yet to file a report. Might have a few candidates getting in trouble once again this cycle.

  2. The card fees aren’t outrageous assuming the Bernie Bump came from online donations. Most CC processing companies charge 2.9% + $.30 a transaction.

  3. Clara is a nice lady. She has triumphed over adversity and a great lady just because she is a democrat, you don’t have to run her down.

    1. That’s a crock. Those expenses would be odd no matter what the party of the person filing them.

    2. Don’t criticize her or point out questions with her filing because “she’s a nice lady”? I’ve met Clara and agree that she is a nice lady but that doesn’t mean she gets a pass. She’s a candidate, legitimate questions are necessary.

    3. She said she felt safer in a refugee camp than she does in Sioux Falls.
She didn’t overcome adversity, she’s exploiting it.

  4. It is nice she the candidate can help prop up the Democrat party by $8000 or 10% of her fundraising …..

  5. This makes Nikki Bootz look like a fiscal conservative. So, Democrats in South Dakota run to make money off of contributions? Forget campaign financing. Why isn’t the AG office looking into these legislative candidates that are apparently scamming people?
