From Twitter, Senator John Thune goes off on Senator Ben Lujan over only funding SNAP, while Democrats keep the shutdown going:
đ¨ HOLY SMOKES! Senate Leader John Thune just went BERSERK on Democrats. I have NEVER heard him like this.
"WE'VE TRIED TO DO THAT 13 TIMES! You voted NO, 13 TIMES!" *Looking at Dems*
"OH, 'there MIGHT BE SOME CONSEQUENCES!' 'There are people running out of money!'"

Democrats don’t like America…But they don’t want to go to Cuba or Venezuela
Dems love criminals and think they should roam the streets to cause mayhem…as long as it’s not in their neighborhoods.
Republicans love abortion when it’s their mistress who is having one.
Dems love abortions even more when they have made their daughters pregnant.
It’s important to distinguish the difference between a biological daughter and an adopted daughter, though….
This is a priceless response.
If the dums can even define what a girls is. Something that cause the dums great difficulty.
Unlike Biden who stated he would do nothing if it was a “minor incursion.” I guess it was a minor incursion.
Go get em, Senator!
IMO Thune is showing his inability to be an effective leader. Tantrums get us nowhere, negotiations do. True leadership is working across the aisle, not refusing to. The Rs thinking that Dems should ‘take their word for it’ on willingness to discuss ACA subsidies is absurd.
LOL! This is rich considering Schumer’s tantrum today and basically every day that he gets in front of a camera. What’s absurd is Democrats openly admitting using hunger and suffering as leverage, per the recent statements of Clark, Schumer, and Sanders. What’s absurd is the Dem mantra: “Never let a good crisis go to waste.” What’s absurd is Dems demanding funding for tons of pork/totally unnecessary spending while 42 million people are about to go hungry. What’s absurd is 13 opportunities to reopen the government with Dems consistently voting NO every time with the exception of the respectable John Fetterman, who has reasonably stated shutdowns are not the way to force one party to accept another party’s demands for $1.5 trillion in spending. You wholly blame Republicans for asking for trust on negotiations post-CR, which is a temporary stop-gap measure as opposed to a full reopening, in case you forgot. Get your facts straight, will you?
And yet the republican house is out and the president is overseas. The controllers of govt are blaming the minority. Republicans never take responsibility.
The House has done its job and now it’s in the Senate, so the House doesnt need to be there. President Trump is cutting trade deals and doesn’t need to be there until he needs to sign the bill into law, unlike President Depends who would use the autopen because he couldn’t remember how to sign his name. So who’s holding it all up? The dems. Nice try loser.
You should work in your reading comprehension. You inferred a whole lot of garbage from things I never addressed. My comment was on Thune’s tantrum in this post. If there’s a Schumer tantrum post, I’d call that as I see it too. Admittedly, since Thune is OUR representation in Senate, South Dakotans should be extra critical of his actions. Thune’s actions are not a reflection of traditional SD values.
As the Senate majority leader, its on Thune as “leader” to act as such. Flat out refusing to negotiate is not leadership. Playing the blame game while Americans suffer is not leadership, it’s political theater.
Did you know 2 things can be true at once? Rs and Dems can both be asshats at the same time. Blind following of either side is how our nation suffers. Our SD Senators are going to be the ones critiqued by me, they’re doing a shit job, I don’t care that they happen to be republican.
“You inferred a whole lot of garbage from things I never addressed.”
So tell us, what was it that Stephanie stated that wasn’t true.
Heâs not refusing to negotiate. Quite the opposite. He said they will negotiate once the Dems vote to open the government. If they want to hang their Obamacare calamity on republicans after that, so be it and good luck.
Suuuuuure they’ll negotiate after the vote. And I’ve got a bridge for sale…
Dems wrote the COVID subsidies to expire Dec. 31. COVID is over. Whatâs to negotiate?
Still waiting…tick tock tick tock.
Ok Bridget.
Rep: âLetâs continue funding levels you agreed to during Bidenâs term.â
Dem: âExtend Obamacare subsidies!â
Rep: âWhy? This extension will expire before those subsidies do.â
Dem: âGive us $1.7 trillion dollars!â
Rep: âThat seems irresponsible.â
Dem: âIrresponsible?!! Itâs not like weâre giving free healthcare to illegals!â
Rep: âActually, it says exactly that in your bill, right here. See?â
Dem: âWhatever. If you donât like it then pass it yourself. You control everything anyway!â
Rep: âActually, weâre 7 votes shy in the Senate. We need 7 democrats unless you want us to nuke the rules.â
Dem: âYou hate poor people!â
Rep: âNo. Weâve voted to fund SNAP and WIC 13 times.â
Dem: âGive us what we want!â
Is this what anyone would call a productive conversation?
Wow, lay off the propaganda
Wow, open your eyes and ears.
Fine. You say propaganda, I say prove me wrong.
ACTUAL DEBATE:
REP: Dems need to approve the budget we overporked for billionaires, AND THEN we will quickly give them the things which we intentionally left out of the budget – but first you MUST approve the budget version without SNAP and AHA subsidies. Besides, the House is in hiding so itâs impossible to change this bill in any way so help us pass it.
DEM: If you canât HEAR how stupid your argument is, then actually write it out and SEE how stupud it is. WE DONT TRUST YOUR LAME PROMISES, TRUMP TOLD YOU TO LIE TO US to get the budget passed.
REP: humina humina humina I got nothing.
Correction
Dem: BUT BUT BUT TRUMP!!! THE SKY IS FALLING!!
Rep: America, this is the democrat party.
This isnât Trump? LMAO riiiiiiiight.
Only fools engage in a Kabuki production while the theater burns to the ground. Both Schumer and Thune are feckless pawns to the billionaire oligarchs that run the White House and the rest of the country. Peter Thiel, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, all at the helm, and we are on the road to eugenics, castes, and a Gattaca-like existence. Hoorah for performance art from the pumpkin pusher from Jones County.
Pontificate all you want but the reality is that until the Dems get over their temper tantrum and vote for the CR the money is going to run out. But then the dems really couldn’t care less about reality.
Ever heard of nuclear option? Wonder why Thune wonât use that?
Because unlike you heâs smart enough to know the majority party in the senate swings on a tight margin.
Nuclear option? OK, let’s go nuclear option and then really listen to the dems go into a apoplectic screaming fit.
If the Republicans go nuclear option then they need to go all the way. Not only changes to just needing just a simple majority for passage, but let’s take that opportunity to eliminate some federal district courts and make some court jurisdictional boundary changes and let’s get that Supreme Court some more justices. After all, isn’t that what the dems were talking about needing a few years back? And the lead sewage technician for the Midwest’s septic tank, aka DFP, said it himself, “If 9 justices are good, then 21 would be even better.” Seems to me he would be 100% behind this one. So what do you say dems, want the Republicans to go this route? Ya, I thought you probably wouldn’t.
So why don’t you dems just shut the hell up and start putting pressure on the slugs on your side of the aisle and get the government reopened.
You voted for YOUR plan. But unfortunately for you, you need to negotiate. As an experienced leader you knew this was coming and did nothing about it.
This is becoming an interesting battle. Dems have had their people screaming at them to “do something.” And they are doing something. All political rhetoric aside, has anybody heard what Thune has to say to those people who will see rate increases?
Obamacare was passed by the dems, knowing that the original subsidies and plan were unworkable. Then covid hit and they added more subsidies, which are the subsidies the dems now admit are necessary to keep obamacare affordable. Obamacare was never meant to work, and now it is becoming apparent that it is unsustainable without additional subsidies. This is the dems problem.
exactly. Obamacare is the Democrats’ mess to clean up
What a lot of people are missing is that the Democratic Party is the party of the wealthy, while the working class is voting for Republicans.
The Democrats claim to care about the poor, while the Republicans are the poor. The Blue precincts are the wealthy precincts, and they actually brag about it.
And since the poor aren’t going to vote for them anyway, the Democrats are okay with starving them.
ACA was a start and way more than Republicans have ever proposed for the health care crisis in America. Republicans just have concepts of a plan after 9 years. Republicans canât govern and only look to line their pockets & those of their rich friends.
Deep thoughts. Not.
The health care crisis was created by the government
Things were going ok, hospitals were operated by charities and municipalities to enhance the quality of life in a community. They were not expected to be any more profitable than the public schools.
Until Medicare. The government decided to get involved and instituted Medicare
The influx of money into healthcare was like blood in the water to sharks. The wrong people got involved, they didn’t care if the patients lived or died, they were there to get rich.
Immediately Medicare costs soared to ten times what was originally projected. The nuns, pink ladies and candy-stripers were booted out, in favor of employees whose loyalties were to their employers, not the patients.
Medicaid was next, and prices for healthcare continued to soar. Hospital administrators, once paid little more than honorariums, started demanding 6 and then 7-figure compensation packages. Hospitals and clinics, once austere facilities of sterility and efficiency, turned into glorious palatial monuments.
The crisis continued to escalate, so the next step was the Affordable Care Act.
And as usual, with every government intervention which preceded it, things got worse..
Maybe we aren’t all so black and white; maybe we need to look at issues and policy over the AI messages broadcast in front of our faces 18 hours a day on that little 6″ screen, which are used to manipulate us. It is odd that we all see the need for food, we all know the need for healthcare, but we go down this path of following a manipulated message developed by those who want to control us and we are stuck doing nothing. Democrat, Republican, Independent, whatever, It is coming to a point where we need to start looking at policy and actual needs over these political party messages, or else I fear we will breaking apart the united states.
Lol
Finally, Senator Thune is getting angry. Absolutely. This is becoming ridiculous. The Dems are just, well I donât know what they are doing. High five to Senator Thune, get angry again.
That was not anger you witnessed. That was hysteria from the immense pressure Thune is getting from people who actually voted for him. First, it’s the soybean farmers. Trump screwed that one up. Then, it’s the ranchers. Trump’s screwing their deal up. Now, it’s people standing up for the 75,000 people losing SNAP benefits. Trump has money in contingency funds that could be used, but refuses to use it. This, alongside the 20,000 or so South Dakotans who will not be able to afford their health coverage? That is a LOT of pressure. It’s no wonder the pressure valve popped yesterday.
Wrong. Itâs frustration with Dems not doing what theyâve done numerous times – pass a clean CR- and frustration that they are so uncaring as to throw people into the gutter for a failed Obamacare program.
Yeah the âclean CRâ was cleaned of spending the Democrats have long fought for. Man up and eliminate the filibuster John. The next gallows Trump puts up might have Penceâs name scratched out, and yours scrawled in.
Do it. Just do it. Get rid of the filibuster. There is zero trust or common ground. If you want to play-act about a pretend âgentileâ bipartisan Senste you are DREAMING John.
Go ahead and do what Trump wants.
Genteel, sorry. No religious implication intended.
Observator is wrong yet again. I guess you didn’t pay attention to the meeting between President Trump and China’s Xi.
But then again, you are pretty much wrong on everything you have and continue to state.

For those unaware of the economic shift in the vote, here is the analysis:
the rich voted blue, the poor voted red.
After years of believing in the Democrats’ empty promises, the poor aren’t listening to them anymore.
The Democrats have nothing to lose by cutting off SNAP benefits to Trump supporters.
This fragile little snowflake controls all three branches of government, yet he canât get anything done. Heâs an embarrassment of a âleaderâ.
Go back to eighth grade and learn civics.
He/she probably canât count to 60.
Nuclear option is always there. A simple majority, which the GOP has, could have ended this a month ago.
Always screening comments…don’t like truth anymore, do you?
This summarizes the democrat mentality.

UPSHOT: Thune is always ready to break out a new childish tantrum or Lucy-with-football head fake to try and shame Democrats into approving the absolute worst budget bill Congress has ever complicitly crammed down on us.
The âthirteen timesâ was NO on the budget, and EXCUSE US for not believing that a cluster of Dems backstabbing the rest of the party and the country by joining you, will open the door to this GOP re-adding the health subsidies THEY IGNORED – or the SNAP benefit $$ you were SURE would shame Dems into cowardly bending the knee. You have lied too much for Trump now. It is all lies sir.
Bullshit. The Democrats are pandering to their base, which consists of old white millionaires. The poor aren’t buying their crap anymore.
That’s why they say “tax the billionaires,” and “let the SNAP families starve.”
The dirty mouth on you. Aww is the Prop-Agit paycheck late again?
“The dirty mouth on you”
You didn’t mind last night.
Translation: âYou didnât mind last nightâ = â I got nothing â
“The dirty mouth on you. Aww is the Prop-Agit paycheck late again?”
Translation = I got nothing.
Lol
This is a fun little nugget, LOL. From March 2025 – https://www.thune.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/2025/3/thune-it-s-time-to-put-last-year-s-business-behind-us.
…âBut I can tell you this, the next time the Senate votes on an appropriation bill, it wonât be on the eve of another shutdown.
âSo I appreciate my colleaguesâ support for this continuing resolution, and I look forward to a much better process for fiscal year 2026.â…..

Heâs passed 3 approps bills and has more lined up. Heâs doing what he can despite democrat obstruction.
You’re really not that great on context, are you? Sad, really. Come in here like a know it all and act like a smug, arrogant jerk when you’re called out. Get a grip, “Jenny”.
What do you expect? She’s a spillover floater from the dakota septic tank.
Well said J – the memory vault isnât gone yet lol
By memory vault you mean selective outrage.
