City of Brookings refusing to participate in federal/state drug interdiction effort in city

This was an odd press release by the City of Brookings today:

Press Release – “The City of Brookings has been made aware that Operation Prairie Thunder, an anti-crime task force with the State of South Dakota, will be in the Brookings area Dec. 17-19. The City of Brookings will not be participating in these operations.”

If you recall from the recent press release from the Governor and the State of South Dakota..

Operation: Prairie Thunder is a comprehensive, targeted public safety initiative to protect South Dakotans. Operation: Prairie Thunder includes two main initiatives:

    • A targeted anti-crime initiative in the Sioux Falls metro to interdict drugs, investigate gang activity, hold parole absconders accountable, and deter lawlessness; and
    • A comprehensive effort to support the work of ICE secure our borders and deport illegal alien criminals.

I’m not sure what they have against drug interdiction operations in the area that the Federal and State governments are conducting…  but to go out of their way to say we’re not with them smacks of politics.

I can tell you from the several years I spent doing bail bonds that we absolutely have meth dealers and parole absconders in the area.  I seem to recall doing a bail bond on a member of MS-13, before that term was more widely known.

But not wanting to participate is the message from the City of Brookings. Such as it is.

  1. I wouldn’t open the city up to liability based on how the Feds have been acting. Let them do what they claim they have the authority to do, but don’t assist and open your city to future lawsuits. This smacked of politics when the state and feds decided to implement the masked gestapo, not when the response is accurate to reject these fascists.

  2. Pat, your work as a bail bondsmen is child’s play in comparison with a federal agency that has taken infinitely more American citizens into custody than anyone with a violent criminal record. Not aligning themselves with a federal agency, especially its idiotically corrupt leader (Noem), is a fast way to remind residents that they won’t be wasting taxpayer dollars defending the City from lawsuits they would otherwise lose.

    1. If ICE has taken any American citizens in, those citizens are probably victims of identity theft. If an illegal immigrant is using your identity and
      committing crimes, jumping bail etc. there is likely a warrant with your name on it and you will have to prove you are not the same person.
      Such incidents underscore the need for stricter immigration law enforcement

        1. the link you posted goes to a news article that says nothing at all about US citizens being arrested..

          Identity theft is common. If it hasn’t happened to you or your spouse you have been fortunate. It took my husband and I two months to clear him of the theft of $5000 from a Menard’s in Wisconsin. Not fun.

          And if you search for “mistaken identity arrest” you see news stories about people who have been arrested because criminals used their names as aliases.
          One woman spent 49 days in jail because a former classmate had stolen her identity, gotten a DUI, and jumped bail.

  3. It’s official: Brookings is now a sanctuary city. There is no liability if they simply sign the 287 G agreement. Problem solved.

  5. Where did the chief of police come from? Where did the assistant chief of police come from? This “notice” put more danger on the officers. Brookings says they support law enforcement? The state should pull their state law enforcement agencies from Brookings. We have always been a state where our different levels of Government work together for solutions not work against each other.

    1. They came from the east coast…you know, where the cops ignore the bad guys and oppress the people.

      They are just another gang but instead of red or blue they wear black. Black uniforms, vehicles and hearts. All the black is supposed to instill fear and intimidation into the people…that’s why the SS wore it WWII. They have brought this mindset to Brookings.

      Brookings is mini Chicago when it comes to police, politics and elections.

      Brookings county is filled with illegals…and the followers of Marx that support them. There is no better way to destabilize the country, and that is a critical step in their plans.

      I have lived in Brookings for over 50 years…it’s truly terrifying to see what the police department and council have become over the past few years. There is no rule of law…it is all back room, under the table might makes right government now.

    11,000 KNOWN ILLEGALS IN SD THAT ARE KNOWN. ARE THESE THE SUPPOSED FATHERS OF A CITY WHO WOULD RATHER CLEAN UP THE MESS THAT WILL BE LEFT BEHIND IF THEY DON’T WISE UP TO THE OBVIOUS? THEY WILL BE THE FIRST ASKING DJT FOR HELP WHEN BROOKINGS BECOMES ‘THE WEAKEST LINK!’

    IF YOU DON’T SHOW SUPPORT, IT SHOWS WEAKNESS, AND THAT LEAVES BROOKINGS WIDE OPEN TO BE JUST LIKE CHICAGO, A PUSH-OVER.
    WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR ‘LEADERS’ SUPPORTING THEIR CITIZENS FIRST AS THEY PROMISED WHEN THEY WERE LYING TO US WHILE CAMPAIGNING?

    THE NEWS IS INUNDATED WITH THOSE ‘POOR GUYS’ IN THE SPEED BOATS BRINGING DRUGS INTO THE USA, AND GETTING BLOWN OUT OF THE WATER, BUT PRACTICALLY NOTHING ABOUT THE ILLEGALS STABBING, SETTING ON FIRE, AND SHOOTING A NATIONAL GUARD PERSON.

    DO YOU WANT TO BE ON YOUR KNEES, OR ON YOUR FEET? IF WE DON’T STAND AS ONE, WE WILL FALL AS A GROUP!
