Republican State Sen. Kevin Jensen noted as delinquent on his property taxes in Lincoln County

One of the commenters had brought it up under a prior post, and they were very correct when they mentioned that it appears that incumbent Republican State Senator Kevin Jensen is included among those who are delinquent in filing their property taxes in Lincoln County, according to a notice published in the newspaper on December 12th:

Should there be a law that legislators are ineligible to serve in Pierre, unless they are current on their sales and property taxes?

  1. It does not matter, people make deals all the time to make payments. This simply shows that we are over taxed and we need to get rid of 100% of all property taxes.

  2. Yup, I am just like every other Lincoln County home owner – property taxes are outrageous. I had over $5,000 in auto repairs in the last 6 weeks. My newest car is a 2014. I am on social security and work part time – but I work every day for you (literally every day I am talking to constituents and working on issues) So would you rather have a millionaire who doesn’t understand your strife, or someone who struggles like you. My taxes will be paid before the end of the year so thank you for taking a cheap shot at someone who works tirelessly for District 16.

    1. Kevin,

You get (as you claim) social security as well as working part time. You also receive $16,348.00 for being an elected legislator, plus a per diem allowance AND mileage reimbursement for being elected (around an additional $6,000.00). For a total of around $22,348.00 (not including mileage) salary for an elected legislator. Adding that to your part time work and social security…well….

Math might be hard for you, but my math, adding that all up; you can pay your taxes, plain and simple. Stop trying to play the victim, no one is falling for it. We, citizens give you $20K+ per year to be elected, and then you cant pay your taxes, which in theory, we are paying your taxes. Enough with the “woe is me” crap.

Not a cheap shot Kevin, its reality; cry harder.

Fiscal responsibility, Kevin, read it, learn in, show it.

Stop with the victim card. Seriously.

  3. Rules for thee but not for me.

Lincoln County must be out to get Kevin when they publish taxpayer delinquencies in the paper.
