Sioux Falls Mayoral leader Christine Erickson responds to opponents’ endorsement of Democrat Smith

In response to today’s endorsement of Democrat legislator Jamie Smith for Mayor of Sioux Falls by the people who placed  4th place (Joe Batcheller), and 3rd (former Republican State Rep. Greg Jamison), Sioux Falls Mayoral front-runner Christine Erickson issued the following press statement:

“Look I grew up in a house with three brothers that played football. I’m used to getting piled up on…but if you ask my brothers I know how to hold my own. Boys will be boys.”

“Leading up to the June 23 runoff, my army of volunteers and I will be talking with voters and delivering a clear vision to lead Sioux Falls forward with a focus on public safety, fiscal discipline and smart growth initiatives.” I am not going to sign away the future of the city of Sioux Falls for a political endorsement.

I will always do what’s best for the citizens and I don’t have any ‘contracts’ with former candidates for this job restricting me from doing what is best for the voters.

Go get ’em Christine!

  1. My second comment about this. Christine’s comment that “Boys Will Be Boys” is actually pretty disturbing…and telling. She wasted no time playing the gender card to explain the endorsement choices made by two civic leaders who have worked hard for the betterment of Sioux Falls and South Dakota? Sound byte politics at its worst. She probably just swayed away my vote. Making stereotypical assumptions and labeling people — which is what she is trying to do is not a quality needed in a mayor. For her to jump to the “Gender” assumption would be analogous to people saying that she is automatically in the pocket of big donors who have contributed to her campaign. I have personally resisted jumping to unfounded conclusions about candidates — like their gender or their contributors. I’ve trid to listen to what people actually SAY and DO. I have not decided who to support. But, her comments make me think twice before supporting her.

  2. “Boys will be boys” spoken like a true bootlickin republican woman who is more than happy with men in power acting like a bunch of fools and hurting the working class all while being their little doormat. Good for her. Hopefully Sioux Falls is ready for a change…

    1. I mean.. I don’t love the statement but I didn’t take it like that. I took it the opposite way, in that she was not going to be a doormat and let the boys gang up on her…

    2. “spoken like a true bootlickin republican woman”

The words of a liberal moron…with the initials DS?

  3. Don’t you think it says something other than gender when the two Republicans won’t endorse her? And, frankly, do endorsements really mean anything without money or organization behind them? The two remaining candidates will win or lose on their merits and getting their people to the polls.

  4. I believe there are voters still today that will refuse to vote for a woman. Maybe a percent or two. And that can make a difference in a close race. But I doubt that these endorsements had anything to do with her gender. I just don’t get that impression.

  5. The hypocrisy in her statement is that she’s calling it bizarre that someone would publicly state what they want in order for their endorsement, however she’s collecting hundreds of thousands of dollars from big dogs in the area a.k.a. endorsements without publicly stating the payback projects she has to complete in order for those endorsements. I don’t think she’s quite competent to realize the hypocrisy.

  6. Meantime, Erickson got a ringing endorsement today from Aberdeen’s favorite blowhard. That’s bound to move the needle in the opposite direction. But, like she says, boys will be boys.
