“Repealing Internet Tax Should Be A Top Priority For Lawmakers,” says State Director Ben Lee

SIOUX FALLS – Americans for Prosperity applauds Senator Thune for leading efforts to pass the Internet Tax Freedom Act, which would prohibit states from collecting taxes on Internet access.

State Director Ben Lee released the following statement:

“Repealing the tax on internet access would be a huge boon to consumers and small businesses across the state. The tax costs South Dakotans $15 million a year and it should be a top-priority for our lawmakers. We applaud Senator Thune for his continued commitment to protecting South Dakota taxpayers and for making South Dakota a better place to do business. Fiscally responsible policies like these have enabled South Dakota to keep taxes low and it’s part what has made our state so attractive to new businesses. We thank Senator Thune for his efforts and look forward to working together in the future.”

  1. This tax raises $15,000,000 in South Dakota. When it is repealed in four years, what should be cut from government services because of the loss of this revenue?

    1. So, the tax takes $15,000,000 from the pockets of people. What do they cut from their family’s budget because of their loss of income?

      1. It is just a straight question. Everyone thinks there is waste someplace in the budget so tell others what you think can be cut and we will see what ideas there are.

  2. Daj,

I’d pass a Budget Resolution that cuts 1% of every line item in the budget every year for three years. If our Chief Executive (President) wants to propose a cut somewhere else or raise a tax to pay for a cut he doesn’t want to his board (Congress), they up down vote on his proposal and it passes or it doesn’t.

This forces the President to be a Chief Executive and Congress to be a Board of Directors instead of kicking the can down the road. I don’t know where the least effective expenditures are atbut the Cabinet and the managers down the chain of command will have no choice but to do their jobs and find it.
