  1. This is interesting. I wonder if the current gov will endorse anyone?

I’m surprised Daugaard is still weighing in during primaries.

  2. This is a pro-Zellmer endorsement. Larry Zikmund was never a Daugaard opponent in any issue I recall. I’m a little surprised at this one.

  3. This is a real shame. Larry Zikmund has been a hard worker and effective legislator. He is an expert in several areas and gets along well with his colleagues. I hope one anonymous commenter is right – that it’s a pro-Zellmer endorsement and not an anti-Zikmund move. I also agree with another anonymous commenter that I’m a little surprised that former governor Daugaard is publicly endorsing state legislative candidates in GOP primaries.

  4. His endorsement doesn’t have a very good track record. His ego remains insatiable.

  5. Our former governor does not have a positive track record when it comes to endorsements for the legislature. I remember his support for Rep. Sly when she decided to challenge Sen. Jensen in 2016. He was all for Sly but she came up short in that primary despite his donation and his endorsement. The same for his backing for Sen. Tom Nelson when he was challenged by Bob Ewing back in 2012. Gov Daugaard was all for the incumbent but Bob Ewing prevailed and served a full eight sessions in the Senate. Other examples could be cited. In fact ,most of the people Gov. Daugaard has endorsed for the legislature in challenging races have lost. We will know in about three weeks what the Daugaard endorsement means in Sioux Falls. I believe the people in SE Sioux Falls will see Larry Zikmund as a true servant of the people, especially the veterans, and support someone with a proven record of accomplishment in the legislature, not a preacher seeking political office as a novice, when experienced hands are needed in this hour of crisis.

  6. It is pro-Zellmer, who was the former Governors former Bishop.

When politics no longer celebrates personal relationships and earned marks of character it ceases to be anything but transactions and sterile (which is non-human in nature).

It would be noticeable for the Governor not to make such an endorsement. Kinda like Obama not endorsing Biden until he had no choice.

  7. My hunt’n buddy Bishop Zellmer is pretty highly regarded as an outdoorsman, a spiritual leader and a great guy.
As we saw in the last election’s results, that district is trending against the GOP. Dave Zellmer can hold that seat for the GOP

    1. yes he is a liberal we know

Zikmund is more conservative and has won in the district many times

    2. Lee – I disagree with your assessment. Zikmund has garnered the most ever votes in a district 14 house race. Zikmund had a track record of hard work through sweat equity and shoe leather knocking on doors every election he has run. Zellmer may be a nice guy, but Zikmund has a good track record with both primary and general electorate. Zellmer would have been better positioned to run for a house seat.
