South Dakota Democrats just swapped out Dennis Menke, their District 18 Senate Candidate, with a new candidate, the Yankton School Board President Sarah Carda:
Carda said in a statement Monday, “I’m excited to step into the State Senate race and would be honored to represent District 18 in Pierre. I will be a strong, sensible voice focused on the issues and concerns of District 18.”
Former legislators Bernie Hunhoff and Ryan Cwach will take leading roles in Carda’s campaign with Bernie Hunhoff serving as the campaign committee chair, while Ryan Cwach will serve as the campaign treasurer.
And I’m sure that’s just the start..
She will lose. It’s going to be a terrible year for dems in SD.
What is the senate gop paxc doing in this race to keep it GOP?
I would imagine the pac will help candidates after their October fundraiser – but wasn’t Yanktons precinct folks among those advocating for keeping the constitutional offices in convention saying it’s a reward for their hard working grassroots precinct people? Surely those precinct people are mobilizing their neighbors and raising money for their GOP candidates. Interesting your first thought is for PAC handouts instead or local grass roots support.
Last I had heard, Yankton had declared themselves independent of the SDGOP.

Dems withdraw rep candidate in D1- I wonder who they have lined up there.
There are some REP primary candidates who should never have won. So much leadership was lost because of voter apathy.
You will reap what you have sown.
Ms. Carda will certainly be a strong candidate in Yankton.. The voters have experience voting for her, she has a strong organization, and, of minor importance, has the right ethnicity for Yankton. I liked Dennis Menke as a candidate, too, and hope he runs again. These are long term Yankton citizens who have contributed to their community over many years.
