Hansen hangs hat on winning Internet poll where people voting multiple times.

In case you missed one of the last gasps of the Jon Hansen for Governor campaign this last week. As communicated by a text blast.. because that’s all he could afford:

Hansen claimed he won the debate based on the on-line, and definitely unscientific poll. How unscientific? Just hear from one of his supporters:

They voted for him 3 times.

Not the kind of poll results I’d be blasting out there trying to claim a win.

  1. HansNO supporters who are non working retired farm wives with nothing to do from 5-5:30 in March. Yup they all voted a billion times. The rest of us who were working and watched the rerun of the debate found out that we had missed the voting period for the poll

    1. I suspect this is the demographic. Kind of a strange “Kennedy fantasty phenomenon” wherein they see a handsome tall good looking man they want to be with *ahem* civically. It’s rather embarrassing to think we have someone like Doeden who doesn’t enjoy near unanimous support despite how his abilities and experiences map to solving the problems South Dakota has (SD takes the dirty money and all the strings attacked, SD doesn’t seem to be able to work together as a state, and has a thick a shadow of MN vs WY culture while the real culture of our state seems lost, SD doesn’t seem to know about same store growth or having a vision for external revenue or what might constitute a conservative approach to IT .. okay that last one was my wish list).

      That is all.

        1. If you can point to an actual piece of real factual history which would show us that Doeden can and WOULD accomplish the hi-falootin moral restoration you speak of, please give it to us. Talk is cheap and Doeden’s actual government experience is zero. We’ve had enough of amateur hour at the White House, don’t need it here.

      1. Doeden has nothing more than attention grabbing talking points. Zero depth, zero plan. And if we want to talk about who is going to benefit the most from his “get rid of property tax” campaign moto (again – no actual plan – just a talking point) he owns over 20 large properties in Brown County. This is a self serving business move for him.

      2. As a witch, Mr. Dale, you could make Mr. Doeden handsome, tall, and good looking and women would want to be with him *ahem* civically.

  2. Considering the debate was all about him when he was speaking, not surprised. I’ve seen this session his followers always talked about how things affected them. Very self centered.

  3. Did any of the other candidates even suggest they won? I haven’t seen much spin on their behalf.
Between dollars spent and previous political name recognition Hansen needed a good debate performance more than the rest of the candidates, and he delivered above the general publics expectation.
Now we’ll wait to see how the internal polling makes the other three respond to after debate numbers. This blog may be one indication of how it went for the Orange team.

  4. Anna Marrs – one of the crazy insane women from Lawrence County. Last I checked she supported Toby.

  5. What, online polls where anyone can vote as many times as they want aren’t reliable? Holy ghost of George Gallup!

  6. You are right Pat. This is ridiculous.

Just to pile on, that screenshot is also not the final result. His screenshot is only partway through the voting.

This debate was at 4 pm on a Tuesday, and the poll was online from 5-6 pm. I wonder how many people who voted had even watched the debate?

    1. That is precisely how Hansen rolls. I’ve seen him twist facts in his favor and outright lie by taking credit for other people’s achievements and hard work. The debate amplified that. I wondered if anyone else would notice the self-serving use of the word ‘I’ and yep, people were paying attention.

  7. Online polls are useless.
Any time you can have a self selected group go online and vote multiple times the data you get is basically meaningless. Even if they somehow limited that each person could only vote once they’d still be meaningless because a small organized group could and will skew the results (as an example – every time you see an online vote where something stupid happens, like a boat named Boaty McBoatface).

Random phone polls USED to be pretty good – in this case they’d contact a random pool of Republicans who are likely to vote in the primary…Statistically if you got around 1100 responses that answered the poll you could say with a resonable amount of confidence that the answers were meaningful.
They are no where near as reliable anymore because it would rely on people answering calls from unknown phone numbers.

  8. I watched the debate live and did not even realize a poll followed..Most people probably recorded it and watched it after supper, if they watched it at all. A debate at 4 pm CDT/3 pm MDT is not going to catch much of an audience, just people who work third shift and just woke up. The poll is meaningless
