Johnson Issues Statement on Government Shutdown

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) released the following statement as the government shut down.

“I’ve said it thousands of times – shutdowns are stupid. The House has done its work to avoid a shutdown, and I voted to keep the government open. Unfortunately, Senate Democrats voted to shut the government down, putting the American worker’s paychecks at risk. Instead, Democrats want $1.5 trillion of new, unnecessary spending to continue COVID-era health care subsidies for illegal immigrants and rich Americans.

I will not receive a paycheck during a shutdown, but that doesn’t mean I’ll stop working to find a solution. I’ve even introduced the Eliminate Shutdowns Act to prevent shutdowns from ever happening again. Shutdowns are costly and do not serve the American people.”

  1. Dusty you stated you would not receive a paycheck during shutdown. That’s a lie congress will receive paychecks. You may decide not to accept yours or donate it but according to MSM you will be getting paid. I’m so tired of your BS

    1. Per the constitution members of congress are to be compensated. so…..your comment is null and void.

    2. Members of Congress can write a letter and withhold their pay. I believe he’s also on a bill with Andy Biggs that would not let members receive back pay during a shutdown. That’s the right thing to do.

  2. “Unfortunately, Senate Republicans refused to work across the aisle, putting the American worker’s paychecks at risk.”

  3. The benefits for illegal immigrants is a blatant lie. The healthcare subsidies causing this fuss are meant for US citizens and legally documented immigrants. Illegal immigrants are not eligible for one red cent.
