Thune: Schumer Shutdown Day One

Thune: Schumer Shutdown Day One

“We will continue to work together with our House counterparts, with the president of the United States, to get this government open again on behalf of the American people.”

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) today spoke at a bicameral press conference with congressional Republican leadership:

  1. Had a year to work this out, of course has had 2 years to get a farm bill. Sometimes you have to be willing to work together, not sure DC has done that in 4 score and 7 years.

  2. I’m confused. He has steadfastly refused to work across the aisle. Past leaders of SD are rolling over in their graves. Even the great Frank Farrar used to boast about having disagreements and then solving them with compromises over a drink. Those days are gone it seems.

  3. You get what you vote for. Both parties have chased the compromisers out. We have a president who only believes in winning all the time. We are divided more each day as a country. Eventually some people will cave and get strung up for it. Hopefully someday we will figure out that my way or the highway is bad policy.

    1. Like we need one more “both-parties” lecture from game playing Republican shills. This is ALL ON THE GOP bud.

  4. During the negotiations yesterday, the President had a couple “Trump 2028” hats on his desk. You heard that right. He even posted a picture of them on his Truth Social platform.

Government shutdowns are serious business. At least they used to be.

  5. You are the leader of the party in power, suck it up buttercup. If you can’t get the job done, maybe you shouldn’t be a political leader.

  6. Here we go!

House, Senate, and White House controlled by one party. Pointing fingers at the minority party. But then again in 2008 when the D’s controlled the three, the GOP pointed fingers at the D’s for the shutdown. LMAO!

Will the GOP ever take responsibility? Glad I’m still part of the old guard GOP that actually worked for the people and worked with our collogues across the aisle for the people, regardless of party platform or party views. When I was in the SD Legislature for 10 years, we worked together for the people. That’s lost now.

In D.C. it’s now performative politics, not substance.

I’m writing a book about this, stay tuned folks!

  7. Sorry John, it is TRUMP’S BIG BEAUTIFUL SHUTDOWN. Nothing matters but the billionaires tax cut, which he’ll take from the top, or right out of the middle.

    1. well there’s the usual idiotic rant about tax cuts for the rich
It’s always the people who don’t want to work for a living who complain about others being allowed to keep their own money.

      1. Keep licking Peter Thiels boots. I’m sure when you’re a modern indentured servant he’ll remember your spit shine and let you work in his house.

    2. Well there’s the usual idiotic knee-jerk slander from Anonymous 6:23AM – using inflammatory language to basically call people stupid, when they complain about a thing that’s actually happening.

      1. intelligent people can be lazy, you know. It’s not about intelligence or lack of it, it’s about sloth.

        1. It’s about the writing the tax code in favor of the rich and brainwashing rubes like you into sucking them off.

          1. The rich make the money and pay all the taxes. The top 50% of earners pay 97% of the taxes.(top 10% pay 72% of the taxes.) Why shouldn’t the tax code benefit them? They earned it.
Why don’t you get a job and try earning some money for yourself?

            1. The rich make it off of all the people and infrastructure our taxes pay for. Return the tax rates to post WW2 and make America great again.

  8. Thune has long abdicated his role in the Senate. He should be ashamed. Grow a pair John

    1. he has. Hopefully he won’t cave in to the Democrats’ demands to keep giving illegal immigrants free medical care

      1. This just isnt true. Illegal aliens are not eligible for the provisions dems are asking for. Why do you think it is ok to lie?

        1. Correction It’s Gaslighting Big difference GOP maliciously goes out of the way to lie fully knowing it

  9. Yes John Thune is a nutless wonder for not doing his job and bending over for trump continually. But hey, look on the bright side, charlie kirk is still dead.

    1. No one is happy about Kirk’s death. He was brutally robbed of the chance to get smarter and nicer someday.

          1. I guess we could post Halloween costumes poking fun at the issue like the presidents family has done in the past. More feigned outrage from the party who is monetizing his death.

  10. Jobs are way down. The value of the dollar is way down. Inflation is up. Gold and silver setting all time highs. Food is up. Gas is up. Healthcare prices are up. Military in the streets. Republicans embracing socialism and making farmers into welfare queens. Highest taxes on consumers thru tariffs. Another 18 billion in soybeans going to rot. I am loving all of this winning.

  11. Since the Trump administration is determined to blame and punish Blue states they should stop being donor states and subsidizing red states like South Dakota.

South Dakota will be fine. Sure! They will need to make some adjustments in taxation but it can finally support itself and be self reliant.

  12. Watching the Democrats wailing about the expiration of the federal subsidies in the ACA they all voted for in 2010 is entertaining. If they didn’t want the subsidies to expire, why did they vote for it? The Republicans didn’t vote for that mess.
Anyway, 23 states saw this coming and ten never expanded Medicaid, 13 have trigger laws for when the subsidies end.
The only explanation is they thought they would all be raptured on September 23rd
