It looks like the 2026 legislature is going to have a lot of pledge legislation being brought by a cast of characters who keep popping up on the pledge lists based on crazy stuff they read on the Internet as opposed to genuine needs for changes in South Dakota law being brought based on the wants and needs of constituents.
To set the stage, there is a new pledge being brought by a Texas Ear Nose and Throat specialist who seems to be in conflict with her state medical board when they try to stop her from doing what she wants:
The Texas Medical Board on Friday voted to issue a public reprimand to a Houston physician for prescribing medication to a COVID-19 patient at a Fort Worth hospital where she lacked permission to provide treatment.
The reprimand of Dr. Mary Talley Bowden came after two administrative law judges with the State Office of Administrative Hearings determined she could be subject to discipline from the medical board. The judges determined Bowden engaged in unprofessional conduct, behaved in a disruptive manner toward staff at the Fort Worth hospital and interfered with patient care, according to court records.
and..
Bowden said during the meeting that she does not regret her actions, and that she intends to appeal the reprimand. She also said she plans to file a lawsuit against the medical board and its members, according to the recording of the meeting shared by the medical board.
and..
The medical board’s president, Dr. Sherif Zaafran, pushed back on Bowden’s claim that she was being punished for her views on the COVID-19 vaccine and support for ivermectin.
On the heels of that mess, this scolded physician from another state has decided that she wants legislators to sign pledges to pull COVID Vaccines off the market.. I’m guessing because she apparently prefers Ivermectin, the medicine for sheep, popularized during the epidemic?

Not shockingly.. Dylan Jordan and BranDEI signed right up, because signing a pledge is easier than thinking.
God save us from legislators – whom we wouldn’t trust to watch our plants – who think they know more than our family physicians.

“Not shockingly.. Dylan Jordan and BranDEI signed right up, because signing a pledge is easier than thinking.” Spot on and I am guessing more to follow, Garcia, Soye, Gosch and Sec of Health ‘Friends with Kristi Noem’ Magstadt to name a few. These people need to get off Facebook for their medical knowledge and talk to doctors and morticians.
How is banning a life-saving vaccine (even if you don’t think it is) freedom? They don’t like it, so no one else can. Ask about any real doctor and they will set the record straight. Not only is the Covid vaccine continuing to save lives, MRNA now has a link to possibly slowing down cancer. These people are certifiably nuts.
There are more important things to ban, like plus-sized women’s leggings and cigarettes
Round up the usual suspects!
Those legislators will bring a bill to do that. Unbelievable!
It is equally authoritarian to compel by law the Covid shot or to deny one to take it.
The irony is neither side sees their hypocrisy and authoritarian position.
I just signed a contract with the state to cut 6”
round sections out of these legislators chairs in Pierre so that they are comfortable sitting with their fingers up their butts.
I did Travis Ismay’s for free.
How is it “health care freedom” to ban the Covid vaccine from people who want it? I guess the Big Government Republicans strike again.
I feel they have better things to do in the legislature than pledge to ban things.
Here’s the thing. I may not like a vaccine for whatever reason. I choose not to take it. I’m not going to the legislature to demand they pledge to ban it because I understand some people do like a vaccine.
Come visit, move to, expand a business or build a business in Medieval Times
South Dakota! No! This is not some annual festival like the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. We chose to live like this everyday and go back to simpler times for simple minds turning our backs to education, science and vaccinations. Our belief is that it is best for nature run it’s course.
No chemtrails or electronic devices here.
84% of the population has received a covid vaccine. Most have received more than one dose.
Only 16% of the population is as stupid as these people are.
as of May 2023, a total of 1,668,981 shots had been given to 746,118, or 84%, of South Dakotans.
The 16% who are anti-vacxers are an embarrassment.,
Trending upward for employment opportunities are Gravediggers. On the job training provided. No additional education needed.
So they want to ban vaccines so that people who want them can’t get them.
It wasn’t enough that they don’t want vaccines for themselves, they want to make sure nobody else gets them.
Great.
Those random moments when DWC goes full Dr. Peter Hotez.
We need to know who would sign this idiotic pledge.
for starters, Phil Jensen did. SMH
At the height of Covid, unvaccinated people were dying at ten times the rate of vaccinated ones, even though the vaccinated population skewed older and more frail. But somebody on Facebook convinced these idiot legislators that the vaccine was the problem. Here’s the truth…

Why can’t we just have freedom? The amount of government these wackos think we need is too damn high!
As someone who spent months dealing with long-haul Covid symptoms which lifted two weeks post vaccination, I find this whole thing to be particularly infuriating. I spent several months of 2020 dealing with palpitations, (paroxysmal atria tachycardia) central apnea, and hypoxia. I had ED visits, EKGs, two runs of Holter monitoring, two echocardiograms (one with bubbles, one without) and a sleep study which showed the apnea was neurologic, not obstructive. No explanation could be found other than the presence of covid antibodies. At the time not much was known about long-haul covid. It was awful. “You’re the first person I have seen with this,” the PAC said, in September 2020.
In early 2021 I was vaccinated and two weeks later the symptoms lifted. I thought it was a coincidence, until later when I learned that a lot of other long-haulers were reporting the same thing, and Yale Med was studying the phenomenon.
There are only theories as to why it works, but it is estimated that 40% of long-haul covid sufferers report recovery after vaccination.
Long haul covid is awful, and these people want to ban the only treatment found to work.
They are evil. That is all I can say. Evil.
Aren’t these the same cretins who voted against the pipeline because of LOCAL CONTROL? But they want to take away the most basic LOCAL CONTROL (individual rights).
This is another example of Republicans in Pierre going out of state to cherry pick opinions that support their predetermined outcomes.
