I’ve managed to get my mitts on the fundraising announcement for the Larry Rhoden for Governor fundraiser in Pierre on Wednesday for November 19th. Please note that Larry clearly indicates that he’s running for Governor on this invite.
And as you might expect, there are a number of Department Secretaries and other top brass in state government who are noted as hosts who have a pecuniary interest in having their current boss return to the position once again in 2026. (It’s almost like their job depends on it):

50% of the host couples have at least one member of the household holding high position in state government under Governor Rhoden. Plus, there’s a few other assorted government officials not under the Governor’s control such as Commissioner of School & Lands Brock Greenfield, PUC Commissioner Gary Hanson, State Auditor Rich Sattgast, and new Deputy State Treasurer Mitch Krebs.
Stay tuned, as things are about to get more interesting!

Larry ordering his employees to pony up.
$1000 is a small price to pay for making over $100k annually. Is that the trade-off? Sign me up.
Umm. They fear Dusty. The days of living large on the backs of the tax payers are coming to an end.
The Commissioner of BFM pulls down $200k. These jobs paid $100-$120k in 2019. Go look it up.
The good old boys club.
Dusty will slash budgets.
Ordering? And you’ve never seen this type of SUPPORT before? Or were you not paying attention before (like 50 years)? Not like this is a personally owned business and they’ll be fired.
The power dynamic for the governor to get him employees to donate is unethical. There should be a law banning this. Besides that, this is a very weak list.
Right. Because this has never been done before… SMH
Rhoden is likeable enough but just doesn’t have the personality, leadership or fundraising ability to win this race. The only reason he’ll poll decent is because he’s able to use tax dollars traveling around the state to promote himself. In the end, he’s likely to finish dead last.
I think Jon will have the last word on finishing last.
Not like he’s in the bottom half. Literally every Governor could ‘use tax dollars traveling around the state promoting [themselves]’ in the eye of the beholder.
10-16-25 SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – In a new survey by Morning Consult, South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden is the 13th most popular governor in the United States.
The poll shows Rhoden with a 57% approval rate and a 21% disapproval rate. 22% of the people surveyed said they had no opinion on Rhoden.
That’s a rough list. I know Pierre is a company town, but I am not sure how often you see the Chief of Staff of a current officeholder serve as co-host for their bosses fundraiser…plus, by my count, at least 12 other people on his payroll.
Larry reminds me a lot of Rick Perry. It all seems like a good idea until he is under scrutiny.
Mortenson house divided!
I always did like Will more than Todd.
Almost like the Daugaardian Divide, eh? One wonders if these fellows are all in cahoots, together, in a group, cahooting a bit behind the doors that are closed, plotting in ways we mostly cannot understand if we aren’t in the cahooter meetings.
lol sleepy Larry, they better change this to a 4:30 event.
Ahhh, then you wouldn’t be able to attend after your bedtime. I’m sure it’ll rock on without you. Night night.
Has Carl Perry switched his support to Larry Rhoden yet?
Carl has never lost a race. His endorsement is major.
