SDGOP proposing wishful budget in the face of a complete crash in donations.

Remember when SDGOP Chairman (& former 32-year Obama Democrat) Jim Eschenbaum claimedWe don’t need any more money thrown to the state GOP than what we need to operate?” (..at the same time he noted they wanted to weed out RINO’s from the party)

I’m thinking that the party might be having some second thoughts about their chairman declaring they don’t need any money.  Because it appears that things are looking bad at the SDGOP in terms of what they’re seeing in donations.

How bad are they getting? Had this note sent to me the other day by the party through an intermediary not long after they filed receiving no donations that month other than from the treasurer on their FEC Report:

Things are so bad that the party actually came crawling to me for something the party put out 2-3 years ago?  That’s funny! (You can about guess my reply).

With that as the launching point, yesterday, the SDGOP sent out their proposed budget for the next year, as well as how they’ve done so far in fundraising for 2025:

So many pie in the sky projections. Has anyone actually done any fundraising before?

I don’t see any expenses for their “Miller Golf Tournament” where they were splitting the proceeds. They actually believe they’re going to take in $30k for a statewide mailer after the previous year the party actually lost money on the last statewide mailer (as I was told) & no line item for postage on that or any other mailer. They think they’re going to raise 25k on a raffle they’re going to sink 15k into, and they’re going to get another $17-18K out of county GOP organizations?

Well. Good luck with that.

Also the party’s finances continue to dim with a notation that as of 6/1, they are down to $29,825.30 in the state account and $26,770.01 in the federal, giving them less than $58,000 total among all their accounts in the face of dwindling finances and few prospects.

Stay tuned, as we find out if the chairman still believes that they “don’t need any more money” a few months from now.

  1. This new SD Republican Party is like a rudderless ship having a good main engine. However, the ship has no fuel (and no money to buy any) and is crewed by “deckies” who have no knowledge or experience to operate machinery. These deckies love to use flags, slogans and communication devices to issue orders and rules that are totally inane. They will plan and strut but the ship is at the mercy of the tides and weather and she will ground, rust, sink or be scrapped.
A once powerful apparatus crewed by multiple officers, engineers, maintenance personnel and effective financial team will be lost.
    Watch for a new build.

    1. This a great analogy. They managed to chase of the “establishment “ without any idea of what the establishment actually did.

  2. I’d imagine the convention is going to be an austere affair, if they can even afford to hold one at all.

    1. Where will the convention be held in Doeden’s motorhome or should they borrow a smaller RV?

    2. What? They’re planning to spend 135 THOUSAND DOLLARS on convention! For that, we can have gold plate on our ice cream sundaes!

      1. Actually, from what I understand, that’s a very, very low estimate. watch it to be between 150k and 180k.

Unless they’re going to do their sound system with 2 soup cans and strings.

  3. Smart money is going directly to true Republicans like Dusty and avoiding the crazed folks running the party.

  4. Who was the “Political Director” that got $10K? Did anyone else see that in the finance report?

  5. If your State Party is asking your local party units for funds, it’s about as bad as it gets. And a bad, bad practice to boot.

    1. Actually, county parties are supposed to have paid dues for years. Minnehaha or Pennington never did..but most others did if the money was there

  6. I see they’re planning to have a 52 Week Gun Raffle. I wonder if they are aware that, by law, raffles can only last 30 days?

  7. The “true conservatives” have revealed themselves to be incredibly naive about the cost of a convention.
Anybody who has ever hosted a daughter’s wedding should be able to do the math: extrapolate a 6 hour reception for 150 guests to accommodate 500-600 delegates for three full days. Multiple rooms, multiple meals. $135,000 is a low estimate. The party’s usual MO of charging the delegates who show up for the first two days and letting the freeloaders pay nothing for Saturday needs to stop. The cost of admission should be $300 each no matter how many hours they attend. Let the candidates who recruit them explain it to them. It’s ridiculous that so many people sign up to be precinct committee people but don’t have a clue what the job entails or how much it’s going to cost them.
