Senate Caucus Elections happening tonight.. Mehlhaff Majority Leader.. Karr President Pro Tempore. Perry Assistant Majority Leader.

Senate Caucus elections are happening right now…  Senator Jim Mehlhaff was just selected as Senate Majority Leader… and Karr won the vote for Senate President Pro Tempore.

First round for Assistant Majority Leader between Helene Duhamel and Carl Perry ended in a tie. And Perry won in Round 2. How did these Senators look at them and decide “I want the one who went to the crazy rally in Sioux Falls?”

Watch for more updates, as more caucus election info leaks comes out.

MORE:

Whip candidates are Sue Peterson, Randy Deibert, Kevin Jensen, Steph Sauder, Sydney Davis, California Carley, and that idiot Tom Pischke.

And with the final vote, Whips are Sue Peterson, Kevin Jensen, Randy Deibert, and that idiot Tom Pischke.  How does Tom Pischke go from being kicked out of caucus for trying to have just about all of the Senate arrested to being a whip?

Many are ok, but there are a few inmates now leading the asylum.

    1. I say Mehlhaff or Bahmuller should be nominated for Lt gov at the next convention (no matter who is nominated for governor) since schoenbeck and Mortenson wouldn’t let them make that simple change to the law to let the governor nominee select their running mate

    1. Great choice. He’s shown himself to be a formidable powerhouse by defeating Washnok and now becoming assistant majority leader.

      1. Yes … so powerful he can’t even pass a bill…. Or even get one out of committee. Press conferences will be entertaining at least.

  1. These fellows don’t care about kid’s football. They are insaner than most, and mark grudznick’s words, they will fail at running the legislatures. It will be epically entertaining. Mr. Karr’s bulbous head can’t get any bigger without popping, just look for the guy that looks like Violet Beauregarde on the floor of the senate.

    1. they’re probably the perfect leadership to receive and execute the heritage foundation 2025 to-do list. i expect it to go smoothly because of the great gobs of lube that will be applied to it all.

    1. hey, here’s a truly novel idea: don’t waste your time in a relationship with somebody you don’t want to have children with.
Don’t worry about Republican legislators; you should yourself enough to keep people you don’t respect out of your bedroom.

      1. But if not, you’ll be there to make sure that no unholy relationships happen. I feel bad for your wife if you think sex is only for children.

      2. Sure Anon 2:05 am! Here is another that will be a series of very popular videos this upcoming 2025 Wackadoodle led SD legislative session.

        Republicans (Wackadoodles) Watching Your Daughter

Instead of Congressman substitute it for SD legislator.

  2. Elections have consequences. Too many conservative voters sit out during the primary elections or have switched to independent. These leadership elections are an embarrassment for the whole state. Who’d have thought a guy kicked out of caucus could be elected to a post or Carl Perry could go from [redacted] and then withdrawing all of his stupid bills to becoming Assistant Leader. My guess is that these folks have a very short shelf life to their political careers….

  3. People aren’t engaged. They don’t care about SD politics because overwhelmingly things are very good here. We will just have to let these guys try to govern for awhile, and let people get very upset about education, healthcare, and their personal freedom – then maybe they will vote. At least once or twice.

  4. Pat, at some point some introspection from you about your part in fanning this toxic idiocy over the past three decades might do the party some good.

    1. Considering I’m only hitting 20 years in February, there must be a Time Machine involved, or I had far more influence from the consumer complaint desk at the division of insurance than I thought.

    1. Tobin just left over crabtree as the frontrunner for congress. I say losing a primary is less humiliating than a caucus choosing a new majority leader.

        1. Oh please. She can’t win in her district but she can statewide? Tells me she either isn’t a strong candidate, or more likely that she didn’t put the work in to win. Of course, he position on certain issues didn’t help either.

          1. Oh please anon 3:19. Erin started and owns her own business, works in a hospital, and has two young kids. Plus, she tried for leadership two years ago and was beat by team Schoenbeck. The SD legislature is not the end all. I hope she enjoys being at home while this S$@T show is transpiring.

              1. He can’t even organize elections to maintain a majority. He presided in one of the biggest blowouts in state history. I know most of that is probably Schoenbeck’s fault and legacy but Crabtree was left holding the bag.

Tobin would be a much better choice.

  5. Time to give them a taste of the oppositions medicine. They have a lot headed their way, I for one can’t wait to watch it.

  6. Remember-you all campaigned on Property Tax relief-We will not forget-now get it done and fulfill you promises.
    Congratulations on your leadership roles.
    Senator Jack Kolbeck

  7. I had a conversation on election night with a friend who thinks Tom Pischke “votes the right way.”
She was unaware of the bills he had sponsored which were designed to get himself out of paying child support, didn’t know he had tried to get the majority of his fellow senators arrested because they censured his seatmate for assaulting a member of the LRC.

His opposition needs to go negative.

      1. it was threatening the moment Mike shut the door, the only exit, and blocked it. Women understand how threatening it is when a man corners her. A gentleman would have known better.

    1. Youngberg this last time kept his powder dry. Rumor is Youngberg is running again and won’t hold anything back about all
Of Tom’s skeletons. Going the Dells Catholics church right before this past election to get the catholic vote, all of his porn/ gambling problems that caused his divorce, bold face lies he has told….. I don’t know if I believe this as Youngberg has never gone dirty on any campaign, but I could see him being a grizzly bear if he took the gloves off.

    1. Noem is smart enough to accept ANY job offer from Trump so not to have to deal with this band of idiots for the next two years.

  8. great results. can’t wait to see it play out in january as project 2025 infrastructure to end the dems’ 2007-2008 infrastructure is inserted in the various committees and gets the tea party rubber stamp.

  9. Great job, Greg Jamison, Jessica Bahmuller and Arch Beal. You created this dumpster fire for Sioux Falls and everyone knows it.

        1. Ya they say whatever they must to sell you or get what they need from you. I mean they sell Trans Beer (Bud Light ) did everyone forget that? When everyone was protesting Bud Light for good reason. Beals were selling it…. No principals

          1. I don’t remember any Trans Beer in the past 5 years of purchasing Bud Light. Never saw them in any stores. Is it a new beer by Bud Light? A hybrid beer?

      1. Lying directly and trading votes for position? Hmmmm Pat.

If you can’t have be truthful when you run for a position, how are you going to be truthful when you get a position? The caucuses on both sides have seen their true colors.

    1. Curious to know how those three created this. They each only have one vote in this process in their respective chambers.

  10. Pischke went from being kicked out of caucus to leadership the same way Schoenbeck went from getting kicked out of caucus to leadership. New people, new year, new opportunity for redemption and grace.

    1. On topic:
I hope the people of South Dakota are ready to be a national laughing stock – because our legislators just set the tone for policy of the next two years, by electing a bunch of buffoons to leadership.

While the scholars of the far right are busy stoking each other’s egos and patting themselves on the back about being self deemed saviors of the republic, one only dumber than the next: I hope the far larger majority of normal South Dakotans will finally take note.

May God help us through the next 24 months of sheer embarrassment and spare us the full extent of the idiocy that will likely take the better part of the next decade to dig out of.
