Yesterday Rep. Phil Jensen was trying to defund Huron Public Schools, and today Sen. Tom Pischke and friends were trying to defund the National Guard.
I’m not sure anyone is safe while the legislature is in session this year.

In Senator Carley’s defense, he was unaware that the SD Guard was in the actual military and deployed to foreign countries.
In case anyone was looking for the audio of it..

A yes vote from Sam Marty? The guy whose entire identity is “I’m a veteran with a Purple Heart”? Did his sister forget to tell him how to vote? Was he talking in his sleep? That guy needs to go.
Inexcusable. That’s the only word that comes to mind.
Wait. Scratch that. I can think of a second word: Despicable.
Yup. Those are the two words that come to mind.
This group of Legislators have been using Soldiers and Public Education Students/Teachers as pawns. Pischke admitted on the Senate floor that this bill was an attempt to send a message to the Federal Govt. He and the rest of his buddies could care less about Soldiers. Same with all the Public Ed Bills. 10 Commandments bill is nothing more than trying to get involved in a lawsuit to get to the Supreme Court. The Yea votes could care less about Public Ed Students. It’s all pathetic.
Pischke = fourth stooge
This attack on South Dakota’s National Guard is really offensive. The best they could claim is that they are too ignorant to understand how our Guard is funded, and anybody that ignorant should apologize and resign- if they had honor
Decades of soldiers have made our units into the most decorated in America (seriously), and never has a South Dakota legislative chamber had to vote on whether the soldiers sacrifice was appropriate- until now!
And 6 senators got an F
Howard has been on Appropriations for many years in the House. She’s always saying how she loves the military, and she’s a veteran.
Absolutely Zero Excuses for her vote.
Zero.
Community leaders, it’s time to take a stand. Pischke’s actions have raised serious concerns about his character, integrity, and decision-making abilities. His choices not only demonstrate a lack of respect but also undermine the values we hold dear. We urge the Legislature to reconsider his compensation until he demonstrates the common sense and respect that our constituents deserve.
I have consistently heard from the Prime Sponsor and Pischke that Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, supports this type of legislation. He’s the Sec of Def………….for our Nation. If it’s so damn important, why can’t he work with the Republican controlled administration to fix it at the national level where it’s being driven from.
