Delegation Applauds Department of Transportation Grant for Missouri River Bridge

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sens. John Thune (R-S.D.) and Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) and U.S. Rep. Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) today applauded the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT’s) announcement that it would award a $13 million federal grant to support a bridge replacement project for the Missouri River Bridge, which connects Pierre and Ft. Pierre. The grant was awarded under the Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) program.

“Secretary Chao called me this afternoon to tell me that the U.S. Department of Transportation will be awarding a federal grant to fund the replacement of the Missouri River Bridge,” said Thune. “This bridge serves as an essential link between East River and West River South Dakota, so I am glad it will be receiving the funding needed to ensure this important thoroughfare remains a safe piece of infrastructure for everyone across the state who uses it.”

“I thank Secretary Chao for recognizing the need to continue to invest in these important bridge and highway projects,”said Rounds. “Funding for this project will help replace the Missouri River Bridge connecting Pierre and Ft. Pierre, providing critical access to our capital city.”

“I am grateful the U.S. Department of Transportation recognized the need for improvements on the Missouri River Bridge,” said Johnson. “This investment will ensure that our infrastructure in South Dakota remains strong for years to come and will continue to provide access to all four corners of our state.”

  1. Great news! Agree with Senator Thune that the bridge: “serves as an essential link between East River and West River South Dakota.” Many thanks to our federal delegation for working to keep this critical thoroughfare “a safe piece of infrastructure.”

  2. I guess it pays to be “Lurch” to McTurtle’s “Gomez”. Every now and again, “Morticia” will throw you a bone.
