South Dakota Republican Party Highlights Hawks’ Support for State Income Tax
Pierre – The South Dakota Republican Party today issued the following statement in response to Paula Hawks’ candidacy for the U.S. House:
“Paula Hawks is best known for being the leading advocate for the creation of a state income tax that would dramatically raise taxes on all South Dakotans and we welcome her to the race,” said South Dakota Republican Chairwoman Pam Roberts.

Hawks: “Um, yeah. …”
Questioner: “Do you see a downside to an income tax?
Hawks: “It’s extremely unpopular. The unfortunate part of that is it’s unpopular because of a lack of understanding how that would affect people differently than taxes now.”

Paula, don’t waste your time.
She also voted for historic gas taxes, license and registration fee increases. She loves tax increases. She truly is a tax and spend liberal.
All those tax and fee increases introduced by repbulicans.
Well, at least she will get the teachers’ votes!

“The unfortunate part of that is it’s unpopular because of a lack of understanding how that would affect people differently than taxes now.” I don’t think it’s a lack of understanding that it would RAISE people’s taxes. Unless, of course, she is talking about FIRST repealing some or lowering some of the present taxes, like property taxes etc; and I’m positive that’s not what she means. So just exactly what does she mean?.
I can’t believe the South Dakota GOP has finally come out against a tax increase. How many years has it been since the South Dakota GOP opposed a tax or fee increase in the press?
