2025 EOY Reports: Hansen Campaign PAC mirrors the campaign with big burn rate and not much to go forward on

As part of looking at what’s going on while we all wait to see how many people haven’t donated to Toby Doeden, I was checking Political Action Committee reports, and had almost forgotten about the political action committee that the Hansen Campaign started the season with, the People First PAC.

I should have checked this report first, as it foreshadowed what we found on Hansen’s campaign committee report. They raised a bit, spent most all of it, and there’s not much left.

HansenPAC Report by Pat Powers

In the PAC attached to the Hansen campaign, the group reported actually raising $123,183.05. But then they spent the bejeezus out of it with $110,402 in expenses, including $25k which ended up in the Hansen for Governor campaign’s totals.

Now, there’s only $12,780.35 left.

Since the campaign camper is kind of expensive to pull, and neither of Hansen’s campaign accounts has much money, are they going to have to downsize?

Just asking.

  1. Toby’s Campaign Finance should only include himself as a donor? He has continually professed that he will not take a dime from anyone and is self-funded. Let’s see how honest he has been on the campaign trail. Can’t wait to see the report.

  2. It had to have been a memorable summer for the Hansen family. Would be a dream for most families to take your kids and hit the road for every local county fair in the nation and funded by someone else. Place yourself on every committee and summer study. Pretty nice little side-gig. I would like to see the W2 for a “40 day Legislator.” Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t want the job or the stress, but my kids love them some funnel cakes, petting zoos, and ferris wheels.

      1. So much potential you don’t know how to spell his last name.

I’ll wait while you list three major accomplishments and how he worked to bring people together.

  3. After viewing the campaign finance report and burn rate a pop up camper is too risky of an expenditure. An old Chevy Express Cargo van down by the river would be a safer bet. Plastic wrap would do wonders to dress it up.

  4. Other than a couple of Legislators, there are very few West River Donors. Heck, outside of SE SD, not a lot of donors in other regions of the state . Stevie Wonder could see the imminent disaster coming on election day.

  5. I’m not on his team, but you need to be impressed by the personal commitment some of those folks made. Not many people see this campaign as viable, and they cared enough to write some big checks. I think this primary has outlets for all different flavors of perspective.

  6. It is a stouter list, but shorter, than grudznick had anticipated. Young Mr. Hansen pushes forward, and a fellow must respect him for that at least.
