Dems elect legislative leadership positions

Do you need a Minority whip in the state senate for 6… er, 5 people when two are already minority leader and the assistant? Apparently you do in South Dakota, according to KCCR news this AM:

At meetings of the Democratic Caucuses of the South Dakota State House and Senate in Sioux Falls, Democratic legislators selected their caucus leaders for the upcoming legislative session.

In the Senate, Democratic Leader – Billie Sutton, Burke, Assistant Democratic Leader – Troy Heinert, Mission, and Whip – Jason Frerichs, Wilmot. In the House, Democratic Leader – Spence Hawley, Brookings, Assistant Democratic Leader – Julie Bartling, Gregory, Whips – Karen Soli, Sioux Falls and Susan Wismer, Britton.

  1. Unless things drastically change in the SDDP what will they do when they only have 1 member in the legislature? It is going to be very lonely there.

  2. As a Democrat legislator, almost everyone gets a ribbon:

Senate: Three in Leadership. Three in Followership.
House: Four in Leadership. Six in Followership

    1. Senate only has two in followership.

Nesiba isn’t allowed to come into the phone booth with the other Senators until he’s resolved allegations that he can’t keep his hands to himself.

  3. That’s not even enough Dem Senators to get coffee for the Republican Senators. What use is there for them?

  4. Ann Tornberg pushed a negative campaign for her liberal legislative candidates and failed miserably.

  5. Reminds me of the M*A*S*H* episode “5 o’Clock Charlie:

Frank Burns: [indicating first Korean soldier] You will be platoon leader.
Korean Soldier: I thought you were the platoon leader.
Frank Burns: I am, but for purposes of our table of organization, I will be commander.
    [to first Korean soldier]
Frank Burns: You will be platoon leader.
    [to second Korean soldier]
Frank Burns: You will be squad leader.
    [to third Korean soldier]
Frank Burns: And you will be… the squad.
