  1. Nice, quiet, controlled private event. Just saw an email from the Johnson campaign “uninviting” a person who they thought would ask Dusty a question that he didn’t want to hear. The arrogance is disturbing. Do you serve Dusty or does Dusty serve you? And if Dusty isn’t serving you, who exactly is he serving?

    1. They have limited space. Why would they let liberals steal a spot from a supporter who wants to attend? You invite your friends to parties, not your opponents.

      1. Agree. Unless you’re a politician who doesn’t want to answer questions about your votes on horrible bills.

        1. I mean, he represents all South Dakotans, right? Even the liberals? Wild to think it’s “entitled” to want to be able to communicate with your representative.

    2. I’m going to be a doubting thomas on this story here. This isn’t a Q&A event.

If someone is a known problem, such as previously requiring police intervention, or needing a poke with a cane, they might have had a invitation rescinded. But IF it happened – and that’s a big if – it’s not because of some question they might ask.

        1. Considering it’s an event likely announcing the entrance into a Republican primary, I would keep it to Republicans as well, unless it was a close Democrat friend who he knew was supporting him. It’s not like Reynold would announce he’s running in the Dem Primary for Gov and would invite Republican Legislators to fill the room.

    1. Now, now, there. The Rhoden Rhangers are keeping their powder dry until they get news from the Big Dog hisownself. When the Rhoden Rhangers rhide in, you know you’ve got a rheal event on your hands!

grudzick is going to withhold the big bucks until we have the full picture. You should too.

  2. Let’s go! I can’t wait to get to debate season and watch Dusty make ketchup out of blithering idiot Tomato Toby!

  3. It’s time for Hansen/Lems to realize their campaign never had a chance and will not have the resources to gain traction. Monday would be a perfect opportunity to drop out, endorse and join Team Doeden! Toby is the stronger candidate to take on the establishment and turn the trash can upside down in Pierre.

    1. turn the trash can over? that’s what the homeless in San Diego do on the beaches every night, they turn the trash cans over and leave garbage all over the place. That’s what Toby will do if he becomes governor, strew trash all over the Capitol?

    2. You say Toby is the one to “take on the establishment” and “turn the trash can upside down in Pierre” but how many election cycles are we going to keep hearing that same tired line?

The reality is, the far-right has already had significant representation in Pierre for over a decade. If you’re still shouting about corruption and career politicians, maybe it’s time to take a long look at the people you’ve actually been electing. Some of your loudest champions like Liz May and Phil Jensen have been around for well over 8 years. That’s a career politician by any reasonable standard.

What has all the fire-breathing and finger-pointing gotten you? Not much. Because yelling “establishment” and writing posts doesn’t build coalitions or pass laws that actually help South Dakotans. Many of the far-right legislators refuse to work with others, don’t understand the legislative process, and often introduce bills that are completely unworkable. No wonder their “agenda” is still sitting in the driveway on blocks.

In fact, during this last election, the fringe right unseated a lot of smart, steady legislators who were actually getting things done and guess what? Things got worse, not better. So the question is: when will you stop blaming “the establishment” and start taking accountability?

You’re not being kept out of power—you have power. You just don’t know what to do with it once you get there. So yes, it looks a lot like professional whining.

If there’s a better plan, let’s hear it.

      1. overturning trash cans are what bears do in the national parks.
Just the fact anybody thinks dumping out the contents of trash cans is a good metaphor for productive governance is entertaining.

      1. Killing the prison isn’t an option. We need one. The majority at least agrees on that point. Just not the price.

    3. Anon at 4:49 – I agree on the Hansen/Lems. I actually thought they would have at least a little more traction than what they have gotten. It’s extremely small excitement about them. But I HIGHLY doubt they would endorse Doeden. He’s got nothing but an ego and some money. Nothing proven. I heard he never voted before 2024.

Anon at 6:34 – you are SO spot on with most all you say!! However, implying Doeden is far-right is a stretch in my opinion. We know literally nothing about the guy politically other than he wants power to feed his ego. He has no voting record. Not even in elections, let alone legislatively.

      1. Hansen is getting the same support Steve Haugaard did, who received 28,315 votes in the 2022 primary. There were 286,331 registered Republicans eligible to vote in that primary. This is not a base which is going to get Hanson across the finish line. Most voters outside Minnehaha County have never heard of him, those who have often have negative opinions.

      2. Toby is close to those weird Libertarian/MAGA activists that have taken over the party in Brown County. His past posts when it was Toby actually posting and not a handler. You will know it was him when he posts like an illiterate angry caveman online.

        1. Brain surgeons, FreeDumb caucus/Libertarian Dylan Jordan and Logan Manhart walked the parade in Clear Lake with Team Dumpster-Fire Doeden in Clear Lake, SD

  4. I’d like to see an outsider not a career politician.
Real world business and experience would be a nice change.
Dusty is fine but he’s only drew experience from being a political.

  5. Dusty is by far ans away the most likely to be the next Governor. Anyone who says otherwise isnt being honest.

  6. As I punch this out, it’s 11:09 PM on a Sunday and Doeden for Governor just ran a new TV ad. That’s right, multiple TV ads in June of 2025, one whole year before anyone votes on anything. I can smell the smoke from all the money burning. Dusty is announcing. Great. You know what an announcement costs? Not TV money. It opens the doors to donations, it gives you earned media and spots on talk shows, debates and podcasts. It’s smart. At this rate, Independence Day 2026 will be independence from Doeden’s campaign!

    1. Hearsay but by MANY: he had an over $1M PPP loan forgiven in 2020, he owns a casino(s) (not very conservative), he overcharges desperate people for rentals. That’s just a few I’ve heard.

  7. Dusty jumping in, within this climate, and at the PEAK of his unfavorable ratings across the state, tells you everything you need to know about this guy, EGO through the roof. Elitist snob.

  8. All the money spent on political advertising and there is no sales tax on it? I guess those who would pay it would have to change laws to tax themselves.
