Governor Dennis Daugaard did something today that he is not quick to do, and you rarely ever see.
He called out a fellow politician for being awful. And it was his own district’s State Senator, Tom Pischke:
“He’s supported weakening our vaccination laws, he also supported … legislation that would weaken his child support responsibilities. I think that’s self-interested and inappropriate and I think he’s disrespectful,” he said, also referencing Pischke’s involvement in high-profile legislative disruptions, such as in 2024 when he faced discipline for placing a bottle of syrup on a colleague’s desk who’d helped block a resolution expressing disapproval of the discontinuation of the Aunt Jemima syrup brand.
and..
“The day Carley went missing, he asked the Senate president for permission to go to the bathroom,” he said. “He demeans the seriousness of the position he holds.”
The main reason for the story is because former State Senator Bryan Breitling has filed to run as an independent against Pischke, and people from across the political spectrum in the district have all come together to clean house. (Actually, clean up their senate seat, but you get the point.)
“If there was other leadership here in District 25, I wouldn’t worry about it,” Breitling said. “When I moved from Miller to Dell Rapids, I had put my political life in the rearview mirror.”
When a former Republican governor who is synonymous with kindness and class comes together with a former Republican legislative leader, a leader from the other party, as well as cats and dogs and everyone to be rid of someone who is literally a stain on the process, that certainly has to get people motivated in District 25 to go to work for Bryan Breitling.
Stay tuned. There will be more to come. We get to see this one all the way through to November.

Even a classy man like Governor D recognizes a turd in the punchbowl.
The dead-beat-dad coalition needs to clean house.
Get him off the Exec Board too.
Remember Jon Hansen touts him around like a 1st place trophy.
Pischke is a very sick-minded individual. One of those few senators I served with that I would never trust. Very sad
Hansen and Pischke are joined at the hip. If you needed a reason to not vote for Hansen, that alone should be enough.
Pischke’s belief that men should not have to support their children, somebody else (mothers, taxpayers, grandparents, mothers’ boyfriends or husbands) should do it is promoted as “conservative.” Trying to get out of paying child support is the only reason he got involved in politics.
Absolutely. If Hansen were to disavow Pischke, I’d have a lot more respect for John. But if he remains silent on Pischke, much less supports him, that will tell voters all they need to know.
Maybe one of the other gubernatorial candidates needs to put out a tv ad or send out a mailer reminding voters across the state about what a vile person Pischke is so they’ll understand why it reflects so terribly on Hansen that he’s friends with Pischke. I bet a lot of Hansen’s “momentum” will go away when people realize he’s so friendly with someone who has so many skeletons in his closet.
I’ve lost count of how many editions of SDWC have been well-deserved hit pieces against poorly performing and poorly qualified Republican legislators…… but somehow the Democrats, who are a tiny legislative minority and haven’t controlled any branch of state government for decades, are still blamed by most of you and by the rest of the gullible Fox News-addicted public for virtually all of our problems. Sad!
I don’t blame Democrats for what District 25 produces.
First of all, the only news source in a large swath of that district is the Moody County Enterprise and the editor who has been running cover for Pischke for years. (Her late husband was one of the Mad Dads, and was a big fan.)
These mad dads constantly complaining about how much their children are costing them should just relinquish their parental rights so the mothers’ new partners can adopt them. If you think your ex-wife doesn’t need the money because she has a rich boyfriend, maybe the rich boyfriend would like to give them his surname.
I do not understand what is wrong with these guys. But they all rally around Pischke, and call themselves conservatives, because they want somebody else to support their kids.
Pischke now has two hand-picked toadies running for House. The three amigos are posing for campaign photos together.
Campaign slogan: I’m Tom Pischke and I’m a piece of sh-tski. Can someone in the governors race please tie Hansen to some of these lunatics.
This has to be the dumbest comment I have come across in a long time.
Why is it a dumb comment? Pischke is Jon Hansen’s wing man. In fact, since Pischke is unopposed in the primary,,he doesn’t have to campaign for the Senate nomination. But it won’t end there.
if Hansen loses the primary for Governor, there are two scenarios: Hansen runs for AG from the convention, and if that doesn’t work, he will talk Pischke into dropping out of the Senate race. (Hansen is termed out in the House)
At least one of the two toadies, Sample and Buchholz, will be a nominee for House and will be pressured into dropping out so Pischke can take his place on the ballot and run for house..
Heinemann already ran interference for the toadies to discourage anybody else from jumping in. He’s another person with his lips glued to Hansen’s buttocks. It was all part of the plan..
This is how things are done in District 25.
I don’t trust any of them.
Hey, District numbered 25! Get your act together and start paying attention. You, and I do mean YOU, I’m looking at you, have made your district a laughing stock. Don’t vote for Pischke.
Follow the paper trails. Every problem and every flare up of drama is linked to Pisskey or one of his patsies. I’d rather eat my own eyeball than vote for that vile disgusting pile of dung.
Who propped up Dauggard like he just got back from a “Weekend at Bernies” to give us his extensive opinion on Pisskey? Yeah the guy’s on the spectrum, but to have a fossil come back from his one hit wonder governorship to speak about him is sad. What’s even more sad is Schoenbeck trying to become relevant again. I’m sure there’s a green energy project in Watertown waiting patiently for Schoenbeck to milk like Gaylord Focker would a cat.
