The left-leaning ProPublica newspaper/website posted an article this morning digging into campaign committees set up to pay some of former Governor Kristi Noem’s expenses while she was out on the national speaking trail over the course of the last election season, as well as to raise funds for those purposes:
In the intervening years, American Resolve has maintained a low public profile. In March, it purchased Facebook ads attacking a local news outlet in South Dakota, which had been reporting on Noem’s use of government credit cards. Noem’s lawyer did not answer questions about whether the group paid her more money after 2023, the most recent year for which its tax filing is available.
and..
American Resolve’s treasurer referred questions to Noem’s lawyer. In his statement, Noem’s lawyer said she “did not establish, finance, maintain, or control American Resolve Fund. She was simply a vender for a non-profit entity.”
While Noem failed to report the fundraising income Ashwood Strategies received on her federal financial disclosure, she did provide some other details. She described the LLC as involving “personal activities outside my official gubernatorial capacity” and noted that it received the $140,000 advance for her book “No Going Back.” The LLC also had a bank account with between $100,001 and $250,000 in it and at least $50,000 of “livestock and equipment,” she reported.
What does it matter which way it leans? Is it true or not?
I suppose you have to put that in there so the MAGAts don’t freak out on you?
Remember her appearance at the South American prison with her Rolex on display? Did you think she was just really good with budgeting her governor’s salary?
Smearing the messenger? Real classy.
Kristi lies again? Well color me surprised.
That’s a cheap shot, PP. In my experience, Pro Publica does its homework and calls it like it is. You know- like good journalists do.
I do not understand the blind fealty to Kristi Noem who trades on public image and flat out meanness at the price of crafting decent policy, intellectual curiosity, and integrity. Everything, and I mean everything about the woman is driven toward polishing her public image and self-promotion. It is all part of a long game presidential campaign that SD taxpayers helped finance until she could tap the US taxpayers for bigger bucks.
The only thing left better from Governor Noem’s time in office was her teeth and cheekbones. South Dakota not so much.
Not a cheap shot. Whether you care to admit it or not, ProPublica is widely viewed as having a left-leaning bias.

I would argue all media outlets tend to have biases. It’s up to the reader to decide how that affects the veracity of the story.
(That’s why I like to provide press releases directly, instead of re-writing them as most media outlets do. You get more of the intent of the author, and less filtering through my lens).
Then why dont you ever refer to FOX News, Newsmax, OANN, Breitbart etc as right wing?
If I – writing from an admittedly Conservative Republican point of view – am referring to Fox News, I would think that’s already assumed and I don’t have to spell it out.
Fair enough, but here is my view on that. A news outlet publishes a story unfavorable to Noem. (Face it, she’s a nearly endless source of material from Meth, We’re On It to flunking a lay up quiz on habeas corpus to Rolexes in prisons, and on, and on, and on). Your implication is that if an outfit dare publish anything critical, then they are clearly politically motivated, ie “left-leaning.”
PP- I consider you a person with a great deal of integrity and reliability. You ask the right kind of questions and are not afraid to call balls and strikes regardless which team is up to bat. People look up to you. So, why throw in the label to give readers some hint that this article can only be a hack job?
I realize your blog, your opinion, man. But you can do better than that.
+1
“Stanley did not respond to follow-up questions about whether the ethics office was aware of the $80,000 payment.”
Hmmm. I’m starting to think Noem is a bit unethical.
Used to be a fan of hers. But she may be the poster child for unethical right now. Unfortunately she fell in love with the camera and the attention. She’s not the same person she once was.
Notice how this blog post said nothing about the truth or falsity of the report and just says “liberals” and expects us to turn our brains off.
No one complains when I use the term ‘hard-right,’ but I say ‘left-leaning’ and people start having kittens..
Also.. https://adfontesmedia.com/propublica-bias-and-reliability/
Are they wrong? Are they misleading? Anything to say about the actual substance of the article?
Left-leaning, yes. Wrong on this one, no. Kristi loved using the credit card and the state plane. Only after she left did we get a peak at those records. Now in DC, she spent what $200million to put her face on TV commercials, and has already asked for a new $50 million GulfStream? Never met a camera she didn’t like. Grifter is best description I’ve heard lately. Reminding me more and more of the Bosworth duo.
