Rep Fred Deutsch gets new appointment

I’m hearing tonight that State Representative Fred Deutsch was just appointed to the vacancy on the House Health & Human Services Committee. Speaker Wink did this through removing him from the House Commerce & Energy Committee.

What makes this more interesting is that Fred, in addition to being a health care provider, is also the newly elected chairman of South Dakota Right to Life.

And the pro-choicers will begin howling in 3… 2… 1….

  1. Not sure how the slight reconfiguring is going this year but that was likely my open seat on the HHS committee. Good replacement for sure – Dr Fred knows the health care world professionally understands the reasons to protect vulnerable human life. Not sure where exactly he stands on the perennial issues of vaccinations, midwifery or medical marijuana.

Fred was on the Ed committee if I remember correctly (another good fit for experience) and one other. State website seems down so I can’t verify. I wonder what committee he gives up to take this new assignment and which committees will be served by the new District 9 rep. I was also on the transportation committee and the state and tribal relations committees so those spots need to be filled.

  2. Steve, this was your seat. Honored to fill the position. Obviously, no one can replace you.

I remain on House Education. I move off of House Commerce & Energy.

I’m looking forward to digging deep into the healthcare challenges of South Dakotans. God willing I can make a difference.
