From facebook, State Representative Dylan Jordan is taking a moment to get up from his gramma’s couch to attack lobbyists that represent groups receiving funding through public entities:

So, big schools, small schools, teachers, administrators, county officials, county commissioners, municipal officials, town & townships, state employees, public university students, regental institutions, Board of Regents, any state agency, any state elected official who hires a lobbyist, etcetera and so on, DJ Jazzy Jordan has no interest in learning anything about the organizations you represent or how his actions will affect your groups or South Dakotans as a whole.
Especially any lobbyists representing the South Dakota National Guard or municipal airports – who will be affected by his pledge to bring legislation to shoot down planes.

I’m guessing he doesn’t want to hear a damn thing from you.

I went and listened to him and some Liberty weirdo in Sioux Falls at the downtown library branch. My expectations were low and they were met.
-He only used buzz phrases such as “government funded schools”
-Complained he couldn’t get anything done because no one likes him (a bit of a self-reflection, I suppose).
-Made no points and has zero vision (on par for SDGOP).
“Complained he couldn’t get anything done because no one likes him?”
I would guess that like or dislike has less to do with it than a complete and utter lack of respect for him.
He actually admits he can’t get anything done?
Heck a a platform to run on.
At least two things cause this debacle from the northeast part of SD.
1. Voter laziness
2. The radicals got out the vote.
He actually admits he can’t get anything done? Don’t get his mom started!
Does he realize that “taxpayer funded lobbying” would include every single government employee, entity, and elected official? Crim reform, sorry AGs office, not anymore. Better elections, sorry SOS office, Dylan said no. Wanting to hear from the people elected at a county level who manage an already tight budget in how various property tax reforms would affect counties? Sorry, the DJ ain’t letting that record play.
He is saying he doesn’t want to hear from the people who have the most experience and deal with these issues on a daily basis. What a great way to govern. It’s just as terrible of an idea now as it was when Odenbach had his childish temper tantrum last session.
Testifying is not the same as a paid lobbyist. Anyone can go to Pierre and testify, as crazy as he is, it’s not a horrible consideration that we reform lobbying. It might not be the correct approach to ban only publicly funded, why not ban it entirely. Do you know Facebook lobbies in Pierre? Why? To protect it from being regulated. Uber? Got it on the books that drivers have fewer rights through lobbyists. Only special interests with enough money can pool for a lobbyist and then the larger publicly funded donor is wild that publicly funded have to pay lobbyists to help ensure they stay publicly funded. Let’s review maybe an outright ban on lobbying and see what hales when people have to testify personally for their cause.
What these people do not think of is that directly or indirectly all lobbyists get some kind of taxpayer funding. If we defund one , we would need to defund all. The sheriffs association, healthcare (including CSPs), Right to Life and other pro-life lobbyists…all these people’s salaries are taxpayer funded.
Northeast SD results are in:
Jorday – the dumbest legislator
Garcia – the most disliked
Schaefbauer – the dizziest
Perry – the most unnoticed
Novstrup – the farthest away from the district
Lems – the most anti-development
Manhart – the most likely to lead Jordan around by the nose-ring
Mulally – the bling-i-est
Soye – known as lock-em-up
Gosch – most likely to remind people he was once a speaker
Hansen – the worst speaker in SD history
Jensen – most likely to defund everything
Ok Ok, I colored outside the lines, SUE ME.
Given the choice between Dylan Jordan and Fred Deutsch, I would still vote for Jordan any day of the week. Complete ineffectiveness is always preferable to consistent catastrophe.
I unfortunately agree 100%.
As a D4 resident, I’ve always found Deutsch to be thoughtful and respectful. I don’t always agree with the bills he chooses to run, but he understands the issues and can explain his reasoning.
I’ve now tried twice, at two different events, to have a substantive conversation with Jordan. Both times, he was unable to articulate his positions or engage in a serious discussion. He appeared unprepared, inarticulate, and unable to think through the issues in real time. That’s not leadership, and it left me unimpressed.
Who else has announced they are running in D4?
“He who remains’ may stay, but his brain has left the building.
That’s clever, so I’ll allow it.
So is Dylan saying that the 4-5 lobbyists who represent and are supported by, for the most part, 83 percent of the school aged kids/parents/guardians in SD, are so influential that they are forcing Legislators to kill “good” legislation. I think the bigger issue as far as undue influence is Legislators taking money from current Leadership Legislator’s PACs and Gubernatorial candidate PACs. Also, myself, as a taxpayer, fund the salaries of my Legislator. Let’s find out which lobbying groups that they donate money to every year. Let’s open the books.
