Senator Thune statement on the passing of Tim Johnson

From Senator John Thune:

“Kimberley and I join all South Dakotans in mourning the loss of former Senator Tim Johnson. Known for his tenacity and work ethic, Tim was a steadfast leader who dedicated his life to serving the people of South Dakota with integrity and compassion. He fought tirelessly for rural America and leaves a legacy that will have a lasting impact for years to come. We are praying for Barbara and their entire family and know that Tim’s remarkable life will continue to inspire future generations.”

  1. Tim Johnson was a wonderful person, whose outlook on life and manner of dealing with others remained remarkably consistent throughout his life. I first met him when we were 18 years old and lived with him as fraternity brothers for four years. He was humble, exceptionally intelligent, good humored, and the strongest person in his morality and basic kindness to others I have known in my 77 years. His wife Barb was his greatest asset and he loved her, and their children deeply. I saw him occasionally over the past 60 years and he always wanted to catch up with news of our brothers and mutual friends, enjoyed talking about all things South Dakota, and could crack some great jokes about serving in the Congress. Truly, Tim was a Public Servant. He will be missed and his memory cherished.
