I just love Conservative theatre.
Anybody with a brain works remote or left the state long ago.
anybody with a brain knows that inflation created billionaires. Bad monetary policy turned
millionaires into billionaires.
There’s a few points wrapped up in this that deserved to be fleshed out:
1. Mamdani is oversimplifying this to an insane degree. “Billionaires should not exist” is a non-statement. What does that even mean? That you take every penny earned above that amount once they already have a billion in assets?
2. The US is already a progressive tax system, with billionaires paying more than their share of taxes relative to their income. Could it be more progressive? Perhaps, yes. In the 1950s, the time frame most MAGA adherents seem to believe America was great, income over 400k was taxed at roughly 84%. I think that is too high for today, but it bears mentioning.
3. If Mamdani wants to be openly hostile to business, let them come here. That is, if our current legislature is cool with more revenue, which they seem openly hostile to recently.
