So much for county parties not trying to influence the election process

Remember this email from the State GOP chairman back in May?

It has been brought to my attention this morning that Toby Doeden’s campaign is asking County parties to endorse him. It has been discussed many times that this would not be appropriate for the party to influence the election process, other than supporting Republicans.

Read that e-mail from the chair here.

not..appropriate for the party to influence the election process..” The chairman’s words. Not mine.  If that’s the case, then what on earth is the Davison County Republican Party doing with the monthly meeting agenda they just sent out?

Well, no kidding that Hansen needs signatures. So do a lot of other candidates. It seems that according to the favoritism in the Davison GOP’s agenda they are acting inappropriately and trying to influence the election process. According to the rules laid out (in writing) by the SDGOP chairman.

Also – looking ahead – I can’t help but wonder how that naked favoritism is going to work for the Davison County GOP when they are calling candidates other than Jon Hansen and begging for donations for their Lincoln Day Dinner program?

Just asking.

    1. SoDak — Are they preventing any other Repubs from coming to the meetings to do the same. If so, THAT would be a problem. You don’t mention that anywhere in your article.

  1. Isn’t this the same County that slipped Nolz in the back door to get her sent to Pierre?? Radical Radke will stop at nothing to get who she wants in Pierre…. Her agenda….taking South Dakota back to the days of Laura Ingalls.

    1. Ah yes, Item #4 on the agenda. Data Center Greta incoming? Her next cash cow. Pro private property rights, unless someone wants to do something LEGALLY on their OWN private property that she doesn’t agree with.

  2. QAnon is going to be furious when they find out. Toby Doeden is their “Chosen One” and only Q gubernatorial candidate in this race.

  3. It’s not at all unusual for candidates or their friends to attend county party meetings and ask people to sign their petitions.
It is unfortunate the Davison County Party added this to their agenda instead of just a line that said something about the meeting would include the opportunity to sign candidates’ petitions. Hopefully the attention drawn to this will prompt the all the. other candidates to make sure their petitions are available as well..

    1. A specific candidate’s petitions have never been on the agenda for my county GOP and I have been a precinct person for years. member. They act like they are biased as hell.

    2. 100%

Shame on the County GOP but not surprising given that Hansen gave the impression that the Brown County Area Republican Women sponsored a lunch for him when it was just their monthly meeting. They too went against SDFRW bylaws by allowing it.

  4. It is surprising this Bankwest outfit endorses this kind of hullabalooza. But it would be fun to attended these meetings in Mitchell.

  5. So, Eschenbaum. First Lincoln, now Davison have called your bluff. Are you going to do anything about it? Or are you all bark and no bite? If you don’t take action, you might as well rescind your statement and resign your position because nobody will ever take you seriously ever again.

  6. Promoting once candidate over another in a primary goes against RNC policy, doesn’t it? That should invalidate them as as county party, right? When you violate RNC policy, you can’t call yourself part of the RNC. And if you’re not part of the RNC, you’re not part of the Republican Party.

  7. I notice Heather Baxter got a nice plug. Was Monae invited to speak? Or are they just helping Baxter? By the way, they should amend her description to read “running for both Secretary of State and Legislature”

  8. This seems to be a common trend in the Hansen Campaign. McPherson sponsored a meet and greet for him not that long ago. “Faith” is the first word in his campaign motto and he regularly includes religion in his speeches. Which I have no issues with. However, he might want to consider Romans 13 1-2: “Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.” It is extremely hypocritical to base a campaign in faith yet push the rules aside for your benefit. Yet it’s a common trend.

    1. Exactly correct. It is a theme of Hansen’s. Publishing inaccurate information so to project a ‘false sense of support’. It’ll catch up to him. Not a good look.

  9. Political wars…Counties can fund other PACS, that fund other PACS, who fund Candidate PACS. It is all commical how our American Political System has become corrupted and hides behind closed doors. I agree, County Parties can in fact hold rallies to promote Republican Candidates, but should not be on the agenda as such. I agree, invite them to attend your events, our meetings, but do not use the meetings to promote one candidate over another. Otherwise, your county gets overwhelmed between candidate cat fights, and that helps the Democrat Party beat us.

    1. Too many people involved with the County committees believe every scrap of nonsense that the Ultra Right Wing nuts bags produce. It’s pathetic.
The imbecile in charge of the state party is likely the conspiracy theorist pushing out this BS.

      1. The claim was stated publicly by a convicted felon (convicted of mail fraud and bank fraud) who’s made numerous unfounded claims. The first link I found for the claims was on the “UMVA Super App”, UMVA is Africa’s leading super app platform. The only other link I found “reporting” this was on a site called “Patriot Fetch”.

I wouldn’t bet the farm on the claim being anywhere close to credible.

  10. Except it’s not a stretch. We have rules for a reason. You’re OK with rule breaking for one candidate over another I assume?

  11. I can assure the Davison County Republicans are not endorsing nor picking or choosing a candidate to support in any of the Republican primary races. While I don’t make the agenda, I’m sure this was a supporter of the Hansen campaign looking for signatures that asked to be placed on the agenda, which we allow all Republican candidates for all offices to circulate petitions at our meetings.

    1. Hi Ben! I would like to collect signatures for another candidate. Is this meeting then open to all to collect signatures? What time could we be there? Appreciate your openess! Thanks!!

        1. The agenda has to be distributed 5 business days before the meeting, and it’s within the 5 day timeframe. I didn’t think much of it when I saw the line item on the agenda. I assumed someone contacted the committee and made a request, which supporters from all candidates are welcome to do. However, seeing the hurt feelings it has caused I’ll urge the committee to no longer put individualized petition signature efforts on the agenda, instead to make them broad and general going forward.

      1. As long as you’re collecting signatures for a Republican candidate for office, then yes, all are welcome. Date, time, and location are listed on the agenda.
