GOP whiner group back with resolution demanding removal of public broadcasting content they don’t like.

Hot out of my e-mail box, the SDGOP sub-group of whiners is back to complain about public broadcasting, because they just don’t want SDPB to expose them to opposing views or things that hurt their feelings:

“WHEREAS SDPB is a division of the South Dakota Bureau of Information and Telecommunications, a state agency, which pays the salaries of SDPB employees, buys equipment for the network and provides space for the network operations through the University of South Dakota, a state-supported school, all of which are used to regularly report disparagingly of conservative Republicans and their values while reporting supportively of liberal Democrats and their values.

How do they know they’re reporting in a disparaging manner? Did the reporter not smile at the appropriate time?  So what country do they think this is, Iran?

That’s the darned problem with serving a diverse population. You might like some of the shows, but not others. Call the Midwife might be your jam, but the Antiques Roadshow isn’t.  The thing is, if we have it, it needs to serve everyone.

Here’s a novel idea – instead of whining, turn the channel.  And stop embarrassing the people registered as Republicans in South Dakota with this silliness. You’re hurting the brand.

  1. They should be doing more, other media outlets tell us news from Pierre after voting, Your page, as well as SDPB and few others try aas best a possible to keep the public informed.

This ideal of closed door “secret” governemnt is bull shit. But it is alot easier to pass laws that benefit a few select behind closed doors.

  2. They won’t be happy until legislative coverage is eliminated, so they can operate in secret in a state where physically coming to meetings in Pierre is a challenge.

  3. Since SDPB doesn’t air politically biased programming, Mission Accomplished. Excellent work, y’all.

  4. It’s interesting that DakotaWarCollege decided to post this criticizing what this group when this website elected to post Dan Schneider’s Op-Ed begging Congress to defund Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

It’s amazing how much support was seen in the comments below.

Of course, Senator Rounds voted in favor after tribal radio was saved and earned the endorsement of President Trump

    1. Scott, shouldn’t you be busy rounding up your circus monkey cronies and making sure they aren’t flinging poop around the chambers?

      1. I’ll limit to just SDPB.

  5. We have more pressing things to bring resolution on yet these old boomers are upset about PBS. How about fix the mess you got us into?

  6. Let’s just get rid of state, county, and local government entirely. No more taxes. No more corporate welfare boondoggleage. No more behind closed doors cahoots. If a group of neighbors wants their road kept up, throw some money together and get it done. You want to feel safe, start a neighborhood watch. Let the free market reign! These folks should be happy then. Except fake meat, that needs to be illegal. Because, reasons. And tabulators. Can’t have those because…….China.

  7. “Hurting the brand”? This IS the brand now. Ya’ll made your bed. Now you get to lie in it.

  8. Public broadcasting was initiated for civil defense purposes in areas that were so sparsely populated , commercial broadcasting wasn’t sustainable. It was supposed to be for weather emergencies, forwign invasions, nuclear attacks, that sort of thing.
Educational programming was added later, then entertainment. Nobody leaves it on all the time to tell them the Russian are coming.
It now competes with commercial broadcasting. There is no reason for the taxpayers to be funding it..They can sell advertising like everybody else in broadcasting.

    1. There is no place on commercial tv that remotely resembles pbs programming. I don’t care what it is, the Post Office, Transportation, Health Care – EVERY TIME Republicans deregulate an industry, or close some government agency which they say unfairly competes with the private sector, or defunds and destroys a public-private partnership that was doing good in the world PEOPLE SUFFER.
The eradication of PBS would complete the 45 year doom cycle of Broadcast Deregulation. What did it get us? The 24-7 lie factory of Fox News and talk radio for starters. Yay.
What’s next?? THE INTERNET. We’re going to see a day where everyone has been funneled into Starlink accounts because the private corps all outsource to Starlink. Won’t that be fun. And no nasty competition.

      1. And for all that, our overall debt is still many more trillions in the hole, no money saved, just service lost to people who depend on the life enrichment of public accommodations and partnerships which improve lives. That’s all on THIS GOP.

        1. AND speaking of debt, Trump eliminated the 2009 Environmental Findings bill today, and his EPA toad did a victory lap enumerating the huge savings and low prices we’re all enjoying. Except we’re not. Well, the top two percent maybe, they’re the winners in the BBB. AGAIN no relief in the trillions that we are in debt. Again, via the GOP, PEOPLE SUFFER.
