Hillary proposes $12 an Hour minimum wage. Can we afford it?

From MSN:

Clinton proposes $12 federal minimum wage

Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Rodham  Clinton said Tuesday the federal minimum wage should be $12 an hour.

Clinton said that figure would roughly match in today’s dollars what the federal minimum wage was in 1968, the time when it was highest in terms of buying power.

“Twelve would give us a good solid increase,” Clinton said.

I’m kind of questioning what kind of hit our economy would take with a $12 an hour increase. Your thoughts?

  1. Yes we can afford it. It is unethical to pay a full time employee anything less than a livable wage.

    1. How much do you pay your order takers at YOUR McDonald’s? There is a law of unintended consequences. Fast food joints are experimenting with machines that will take your order and money and deliver the food. Jobs lost. Have you gone to an ice cream shop lately? Yes, prices are up. I know of one that specifically stated that the prices are up because of the increase in the SD minimum wage. I believe that 10 years after the increase, we will see a new “need” for a raise in a “livable” wage.

    2. Isn’t it unethical to give people money for not working and for giving money to people with faux disabilities? How about a little outrage about that as well? Taxpayers are paying for those scams so if Dems would be a little more concerned about prosecuting welfare and disability fraud the government would need less tax revenue and so businesses could afford to pay more in wages.

  2. No we can’t afford it. Another crazy left wing idea how’s $15/hour working for Seattle, not well. Prices go up on everything or employers lay people off–especially if you jump up like that.

Next, the minimum wage is not meant to be a living wage…I could go on an on, but I will hold my fire for now.
