SDGOP still pushing VIP event with libertarian group activist who was accused of drugging and raping woman in 2013

You would have imagined that the SDGOP would have thought better when it came to light just who they were bringing to the Republican State Convention as a VIP.

Well, with this crew in charge, you can imagine they would have thought better, but that doesn’t mean they did. Because they dropped this graphic on social media trying this week trying to get convention-goers to buy tickets:

They want people to throw out the cash to go see a former no-name activist from a libertarian group.  Why do I say former activist from the Young Americans for Liberty group?  In case I need to remind you of my earlier post on the subject:

…if you have daughters, you might want to demand they find a different VIP.

From FOX News:

The president of Young Americans for Liberty (YAL) has been placed on leave as the conservative group investigates sexual assault allegations against him and other leaders in the nonprofit.

YAL’s board released a statement saying it was investigating the matter and calling on anyone who had evidence regarding the claims to come forward to report it.

The organization, which works to elect conservative and libertarian leaders across the country, said that President Cliff Maloney and vice president of grassroots, Justin Greiss, had been placed on leave until the investigation was complete.

Read that here.

And that apparently was not all. Among other accusations..

Cambria Co., PA (WJAC) — After nearly ten hours of deliberations, which began Wednesday afternoon, spanned into the night and continued Thursday morning, a jury has reached a verdict in the trial of political commentator Cliff Maloney Jr., who is accused of drugging and raping a woman at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown in 2013.

The jury found Maloney not guilty on four of the six charges he faced, which included rape of an impaired person, rape of an unconscious victim, aggravated indecent assault of an impaired person and aggravated indecent assault of an unconscious person.

However, the jury could not reach a verdict on the two other charges of aggravated indecent assault without consent and sexual assault.

Read that here.

While the SDGOP claims that this speaker is a proven leader, and a bold disruptor... they left out a lot.  Is the State Republican party scraping down that far in the barrel that this resembles anything remotely close to a VIP?  Are they going to expect the party’s slate of candidates to get within 10 miles of this guy?

Yes, yes they are.   And they deserve every single ounce of guff they end up on the receiving end of for giving this guy a stage.  We will see who wants to actually sponsor this event.

Anyone who has their head on straight, will not just give it a wide berth, but will actively run away from this one.

  1. Isn’t this THE convention though? The Convention that is going to choose whoever will be our next Attorney General, for example? I don’t understand how it all works – but shouldn’t that mean we want lots of good people there? I am truly asking. I don’t want a limited bunch of people who think this “VIP” is a good idea to be the ones choosing.

    1. It’s a pay to attend reception event at the convention. Not the actual voting of convention. It’s suppose to be a fundraiser. Their looser streak continues.

  2. For the record, YAL has supported exactly two Libertarian candidates that I know of. Meanwhile, they’ve supported hundreds of not thousands of Republican candidates.

Everyone wants to be a “libertarian” until it’s time to do libertarian things (like respecting consent — you know, the principle upon which the entire party was built).

  3. What can you expect? This is the same political party that enthusiastically voted for Trump after all his sexual issues.

    1. While I don’t know anything about the accusations for which this guy was acquitted, I read enough of E. Jean Carrol’s complaint against Trump to know it was bogus: 1. Nobody goes in or out of a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room without surveillance. Those high end department stores don’t let you try on clothing without “assistance.” A sales associate goes with you whether you need assistance or not,,they are in there with you. It’s not like Target. The clothing in that store is obscenely expensive, so they don’t let it out of their sights. Women’s panties can cost hundreds of dollars. (Right now, the Eres Mika Soyeuse Recycled Jersey Tanga costs $185. That’s recycled fabric, in a bikini brief) The idea that Donald Trump was in a women’s dressing room in Bergdorf Goodman and nobody saw him is ridiculous..They have cameras everywhere. There should be video.
      2. The plaintiff said it was either in December or January, she doesn’t remember. She doesn’t remember if the store was decorated for the holidays? She doesn’t remember Christmas music being blasted through the sound system? Given that the ambience of every department store in the country changes drastically between December and January, it is impossible to believe she can’t even remember that detail.
      Stop believing this stupid story.

      1. So you think that back when that happened(late 90s) that cameras were everywhere or would have showed anything useful? Seriously? There are also less expensive areas in fancy department stores with normal you go in yourself dressing rooms. But again, much less likely that in the late 90s everyone had store workers following them around to try to make sure they didn’t steal.

        1. dear, Walmart had cameras everywhere, even in Brookings SD. When my kid started working there, in 2003, they had surveillance cameras EVERYWHERE.

Those high end New York department stores had pushy sales associates when I lived out there. It was unnerving. They wouldn’t leave you alone in there. Unlike Target, where you can take several garments into a dressing room at the same time, in the high-end stores they let you take only one garment in at a time and they stand outside the door and you have to pass the one you had just tried on back to the sales associate before she will pass another one in to you.
Believe me, nobody goes in or out of those dressing rooms unnoticed. The merchandise is too high-priced to leave unattended..
Carroll’s story made no sense at all. Had Donald Trump been hanging around the women’s clothing department and gone into a dressing room, he would have been noticed. There would have been witnesses and videotape

      2. Haha, how insane do you have to be to think you know more than a jury that actually heard all the evidence?

        1. I suspect it was made up of a jury of people like you, who had never been inside the dressing rooms of high-end department stores.
I am trying to think of what high security location you might have been in that would be comparable. I think the bank vaults which house security deposit boxes might be illustrative. Have you ever been inside a bank vault to access a security deposit box? That is what it is like. Nobody goes in or out of them without an escort..
There is no way somebody as well known as Trump was in one of those dressing rooms without anybody noticing.

          1. Glad you were clearly one of the attorneys picking out the jury. I bet you’ve also poured over the exhibits and testimony too.

(Heavy sarcasm there, you haven’t, you’re just spouting off proving Dunning-Kruger once again)

      3. Trump’s denial of guilt in this case isn’t based on actual innocence, it’s based on the judge disrespecting him by not simply dropping the charges. Any evidence of innocence would have probably helped him prevail, and prevail he did NOT.

    1. Nah, I think he just found a hat with the symbol of liberty on it and said “this works.” Either way, he’s a tool.

  4. Come on folks, the guy is a tool. Why would anyone think he would be a good pick for anything, especially an event that is supposed to bring the party together. I can think of several hundred other people who don’t have a checkered past that could fill the bill here. What are the GOP leaders thinking? Oh wait, they aren’t.

  5. What’s even more unbelievable is they’re not just ALLOWING him to speak. They’re PAYING him to speak! Between airfare, hotel, and speakers fee, they’re paying THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS to have him speak! SMH.

  6. I mean makes sense for the mentality of these morons on with titles in the SDGOP calling the shots. It’s not like we have the Senate Majority living in the state, but then again if people don’t hear buzz words they get offended.

  7. It will be interesting to see how many Precinct Committee men and women will pay $62-$100 for this dinner to listen to a guy tell them they are the ones who have to conduct the door-to-door campaigns for candidates they didn’t support in the primary.

  8. Looks like the guy I caught hunting pheasants on my land without permission. He didn’t knock on MY door.

  9. Back up the truck! Cliff Maloney is paying the SDGOP for the opportunity to speak to the convention right?

    1. I appreciate the sarcasm! Unbelievably, it’s the other way around! The SDGOP is paying THOUSANDS to have him speak at convention. There are no words.

      1. As I recall, the Friday night event at the convention was the Governor’s Dinner. Campaign literature not permitted on the tables, everybody dressed up, and it was a fundraiser. They are supposed to make money.
Somehow I suspect this event will be an epic fail in multiple ways.

  10. Did they learn nothing from the Minnehaha LDD? Remove everything you know and it’s probably a good speech but if ya know, it’s hard to un-know.
