to Double Down on Filibuster Strategy
“Today, Senate Democrats doubled down on their defense funding filibuster by again preventing the Senate from considering this necessary legislation.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) issued the following statement after Senate Democrats again blocked consideration of the defense appropriations bill, which includes important funding for our military personnel, their families, and infrastructure projects that contribute to our national security:

“In June, more than 70 senators voted to approve the National Defense Authorization Act, giving Congress the authority it needs to fund our troops and important national security programs that keep America safe,” said Thune. “Unfortunately, immediately after voting to give Congress this authority, Senate Democrats blocked the defense appropriations bill, which actually puts the money in the bank. Today, Senate Democrats doubled down on their defense funding filibuster by again preventing the Senate from considering this necessary legislation. At a time when Iran’s support for terrorism is emboldened, Russia’s aggression continues in Ukraine and Syria, and ISIS continues to propagate a campaign of violence, it is irresponsible for Congress to deny our military leaders the certainty they need.”

  1. This is just the funniest thing ever to hear Thune whine about filibuster tactics. Funniest. Thing. Ever.

    1. His supporters won’t get that. The poor baby wackos owning the congress are just sooo victimized by Dems.

        1. No senate in the history of the United States had more filibuster attempts than Thune’s senate. He is the King of the Obstructionists.

    2. republicans weren’t holding weekly, daily filibusters, oh say, EVER last time i checked.

the democrats in the senate are determined to keep that body from ever passing any kind of budget whatsoever. talk about single-minded determination. and of course that single mind is what you get when you take senator reid and any two other democrats and add them together.

        1. a lot of filibusters your comment would seem to attribute to republicans during harry reid’s senate leadership were invoked by reid himself, who never cared whether the senate did any work or not, and still does not care apparently. his main achievement as a senate leader is obstruction and assignment of blame.

          1. You can “imagine” Reid’s purpose if you will. I would hope that you would try to live in a less-imaginary world than most of the people who are in here. You don’t know for certain. You can only guess or regurgitate what they told you on FOX.

But we DO know for certain what Thune’s mentor Mitch McConnell’s greatest goal was, don’t we? Because it came right out of his mouth – and he’s on the record for it.

“Our top political priority over the next two years is to deny President Obama a second term.”

Now Mitch is a learner – albeit a slow one – and I think he’s starting to get it. That every time the Republicans head after one of these big objectives they lose and really look like fools for it. Every. Time.

Thune, on the other hand, counts on people who just aren’t paying attention.

Since you have a strong imagination, imagine this: you walking around your town loudly criticizing another person for doing the exact thing that you hold the world record for. That would be intellectually sloppy and I’m sure you would not be doing that.

  2. Notice how Thune conveniently didn’t mention WHY the Dems. are opposed to the bill as it is,,,,No just fear-monger to the “one born every minute” crowd.
Maybe a con. could explain that?
