From the internets, the SDGOP chair raises an item of concern about RINO’s.

Good gosh.. what could be the source of all these RINO’s coming into the party…?

It might behoove the (former 32-year Democrat) SDGOP Chair to quit worrying about all the supposed RINO’s in the party, and maybe think about actually doing his job to raise money and support Republican officeholders.

Name names, Stu. Let it out. Bet her name starts with B.
Didn’t Eschenbama just say that the party is staying away from picking one Republican over another? Guess that didn’t last long!
There’s clearly a difference if you have many across the state (how many seems to unknown at this time) running that changed their registration in the 1-3 months before turning in signatures especially if recently/previously affiliated with a Democrat PAC. The warning should be sent out and I agree then the chair of the county GOP should do some investigating if they haven’t known them for years to be a registered Republican. Especially if no contenders to call them out.
Nowhere in the bylaws or in any previous press releases or statements has the GOP said “don’t take sides in a primary UNLESS the candidate registered as Republican within X amount of time.”
Look, I’m not opposed to establishing said time. I just think they should involve the whole central committee and be transparent in their decision-making. It’s not transparent, ethical, or good leadership to have a couple guys making things up as they go.
In 2015, the national party was a fully-fueled jumbo jet waiting on the runway. A populist demagogue successfully hijacked the party and turned it into a cult of personality.
Similarly, the state party was hollowed out by a self-obsessed Noem and made vulnerable to a low turnout driven wipeout in 2024 legislative races.
The party is just a husk of its former self with essentially zero fundraising and infrastructure. And with the Democrats nearly non-existent, it begins to raise the question of what purpose the party system serves. It forces us to select candidates in June with only a portion of the electorate engaged, and then we wonder why the legislature seems disconnected from reality. Maybe a statutory change is needed to just let Indy’s vote in either party’s primary. The party’s have lost any brand identity worthy of protection-let’s just be done with it.
And the embaressment continues…
Can the adults come back in yet?
The adults coming in from the democratic party? Being a democrat 30 years ago is different than being one 30 days ago
Stu is talking about the canvass queen herself, Jessica Polly-Wolly-Emma. She has her standard 4th grade writing level blog post about it. Two big concerns with this. 1) Stu believes that Jessica is a “good, solid Republican.” Jessica is nothing more than an ineffective loudmouth that thinks scorched earth politics is the way to get things done. And she’s crazy. 2) That Stu believes it is his duty as a county chair to actively campaign against a Republican. Maybe this person had an enlightening moment like Jim did and walked away from the dark side. County committees are supposed to support all republicans through the primary. Not pick and choose winners and losers. (Sound familiar – picking winners and losers)
This is a perfect example of why the entire convention system needs to go. So many of the folks that hold these positions believe if someone isn’t as righteously Republican as they are, they need to go.
Agreed.
Perhaps if Mr. Eschenbaum had breakfasted more than a singular time with the Conservatives with Common Sense and actually eaten something besides a boiled egg and some lettuce, like some sort of Minnesotan, he’d have a better handle on South Dakota stuff now. Mr. Eschenbaum, grudznick knows you read these bloggings so Sunday I will pencil you in for 5 minutes after the Opening Rant.
Grudz, I want to come to your breakfast on Sunday! You say the place and time and I’ll be there!
Me too! I’d love to find out who this guy is after cracking me up for more than a decade!
It’s not the RINOs we found after a diligent search; it’s the RINOs we met along the way, already running the party now.
Stu: did this person vote for Obama? That should be an immediate disqualification for any Republican Party position. Right?
That 1984 Obama vote was a shot in the dark lol
Nothing new to see here. Candidates for constitutional office recruit their pals to be precinct committeemen and women, don’t tell them what the job description is, and don’t tell them they have to shoulder the cost of attending the convention. So they show up angry, cause a lot of disruption, and then disappear, refusing to do the job they signed up for.
The nominees for constitutional office need to be selected by the primary voters.
