SDGOP: Giving Tuesday means give to us. Yeah, about that…

Familiar with today being “Giving Tuesday?”

Taking the easy AI route to explain, according to Google, Giving Tuesday is an annual global day of generosity that occurs the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, encouraging people to give back to their communities through donations, volunteering, or acts of kindness. It was created in 2012 to counteract the consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and it has grown into a worldwide movement organized by the non-profit GivingTuesday. It’s typically used by charities and non-profits to raise funds.

Of course, there are others who might have different definitions, as today former 32-year Democrat and Obama supporter Jim Eschenbaum’s version of the South Dakota Republican Party is blasting a message across facebook that “Giving Tuesday” is supposed to mean “give to them.”

(This is the same South Dakota Republican Party who reported raising seven dollars and sixty-six cents this last month in their FEC report.)

I’m not thinking there’s any charity or ‘giving back to one’s community’ in the messaging here.

Lots of tone-deafness, but not any charity.

  1. Interesting they’re asking you to buy tickets for a raffle with 53 prizes. But if you were to buy a ticket now, you wouldn’t be eligible for 53 prizes because some prizes have already been won. Shouldn’t the SDGOP make that clear? If you care about transparency, that is.
