Speaking of the SDSOS… I’m hearing another employee is out the door.

Speaking of the South Dakota Secretary of State, referring to my prior post, my spies in Pierre are telling me that they are losing another staff member in the elections department.

Word on the ground is that another one of Monae Johnson’s hires, Logan Manhart, has given his notice and is departing after working at the office less than a year.

Stay tuned.

(Update – also hearing Reggie Rhoden left as well a couple weeks ago.)

  1. Will Logan run for a legislative seat again? I’d imagine he would be a legal resident this time.

  2. Another staffer quits the Secretary of state office? Shades of when Jason Gant was the secretary of state. We could fix this “nominate a bozo at convention” problem, if we switched to primaries.

These days the state Republican convention vettes its candidates by the color of their hat, instead of whether there is a functioning brain under the hat.

    1. The convention is fine. We don’t need wealthy donors and corporations buying primaries.

I suspect it’s only a matter of time until someone from the Trump wing wins a statewide gop primary. Oh wait. Kristi Noem did. And she called out the entire Federal delegation. She has the power to shape SD politics for the next few cycles if she wants to. I suspect she would beat Rounds, Dusty and Thune by 10-20% if she wanted to.

    2. It is amazing the technology changes Gant was able to bring into the sos office. Many updates that no one else would have done.

  3. Grumblings of the mob in a race for last place. Be a strong candidate and learn how to win an election. Convention v primary will not do that.

  4. I didn’t attend the convention but would have voted with Mr. Al Gonquin. Secretary Barnett was a conscientious public servant who attracted a very capable staff of professionals, who adhered to a high standard of public service in full compliance with our statutes. For that, he was kicked to the curb by the far right nut cases in our Party. This is the same group of “loyal” Republicans who wanted the Party to pay them cash, for their convention attendance.
